Lol. What!? Whenever any manufacturer comes out with a long nose front engine auto design folks here instantly claim it is an F-Type ripoff. The design hails back to the original 240Z, which was a beautiful and unique design and still is today. If anything, I'd almost say the F-Type mimics more design cues from that car than the original E-Type. In the end doesn't matter, execution of the F-Type design (thank you Ian) is far better than any of the modern Z cars in my opinion. I just want to give mine a hug everything I see it.

Oddly enough back when I had my XKR (so probs 2015) someone was talking about the F type which had just come out, I said it looks too much like a 370Z from the front. Now I also said the back looked like a duck's ****, which was a bit unkind, but I preferred the more aston-ish style of the XK rear end.

This reminds me of my first new car after graduating college, a "71 yellow 240Z. It had 150 hp and felt like a rocket. At 40K or so they will sell a ton in first couple years, unless dealers screw this up. Then demand will equal supply. Only thing that I feel good have been done better is the grille.

I had owned many 300ZX Twin Turbos ranging from 91-95. I loved them. Although I am not a huge fan of the redesign of the new Z the price point seems very attractive. Back in the early 90's that was one of the downfalls of the 300 TT back then was the cost; they were about $43k new. I am sure the new Z will grow on me and I have yet to see one in person so maybe that will help me as well. I also imagine there will be a ton more performance parts for that available than our F Type.

I did own a 2009 370Z for almost 10 years and was quite pleased with it. It had something like 335 HP but was not a light car. I used to think bumping the engine up to 400 HP would be a very welcome modification. The new Nissan does that, and I applaud them for still offering a 6 speed manual transmission.
Nissan sure did a better job than Toyota did with the reintroduced Supra. But I'm still not a fan of the new styling.

I don't love this new Nissan either (Mainly the front end), but it is not bad overall IMO. Horrible 1st world problems

For those of us already driving a V6s MT -- the OP is probably bang on in terms of specs of the new Z versus the F-type. The two cars match up on paper nearly identically in terms of size, weight, power, etc. The main difference here are looks -- the F-type has a timeless design/beauty to it. The Z also has a long history to it that some of us respect -- and I personally think they did a better design job on it than Toyota did with the Supra. Supra is a bit overkill in terms of the look -- whereas the Z kept the lines very simple and classy.
In Canada we were able to pre-order the Z a few weeks ago so I have a (refundable) deposit on a Z (blue on blue 6MT) that should arrive in the late spring. The more videos I see of the Z, the more I really like it. Prior to being an F-type fanatic, I went through a few Infiniti's (G35s and G37s) until they killed the manual transmissions and (as luck would have it) Jaguar started in 2016 making the F-type in manual.
Odds are that I'll be leaving the Jag family only to return to Nissan.

Certainly all personal taste, But I am also not a fan of the new "BMW" Supra at all. At least it appears Nissan made their own car! Always good to have options for the multitude of tastes out there.

Nissan did a far better job on the Z than toyota did with the supra. I don't look at the supra and want it.
The Z still has DNA from it's original from the 60's, and Nissan's to be commended for that.
But the f-type is a different animal. The value prop of the Ftype is rather distinct and not for most...
That's part of it's appeal to me. I get more looks than guys with C8 vettes now.

I have never bought nor cared what others thought of my car and also really prefer NOT to get looks but in the same token I have always enjoyed "less than popular" cars over my years which sometimes tends to draw looks no matter what. I like the F Type for the reason you don't see one on every corner. With that there is both good and bad with IMO the bad being not a huge aftermarket. I imagine the Z will sell similar to the Mustang and you will see them everywhere. Sadly the C8's are becoming way too common already and they are still hard to come by unless you want to buy a private sale that has the price jacked $30k.

The rarity of the F-type also makes it a bit more exotic -- and having one of the few MTs makes it even more rare.

Would rather have my 2015R any day than a new, loaded $55k? Z.
First sports car I ever sat in was a 240Z. The new one looks and performs great for a $40k-55k car. Would probably go with a Z over the most basic F-Type. The nicest new sports car I've seen with an MSRP under six figures is the new Lotus.
It is weird to have a car already seven years old and to be giddy over it every time I drive it. FINALLY some nice, sunny weather tomorrow in Portland.

LOL? How do you figure? Not a single person would ever confuse the two (inside or out).
They look nothing alike. Jap vs Brit. Supercharged vs Turbocharged. The best sounding exhaust on the market vs no need to put the windows down in a tunnel. Exotic looks versus a try to revamp early JDM. Classy interior vs an old and tired 350Z refresh with some digital gauges. It really is apples and oranges.
IMO, the Z32 model was the best looking of the Zs because of how ahead of its time it was. Crazy to think that the 1989 model still looks sleek and modern on the streets. Don't forget that even the classic mighty Lamborghini Diablo stole the 300zx headlights!
Funniest comment of the week, really.
