The price factor is big in this class. Supra, Z4 and a Nissan. If I was upgrading from an F86, Subaru, or a Miata I'd start and probably end with the Z. I've had plenty of fun cars not really fast, past Z cars and TT's. I had a really fast straight line SLK55 AMG and it was fun also, if bit expensive on rear tires. My favorite car of all time is my F Type,. 8.5 years now. Unfortunately now with a major mechanical problem, all signs point to a head gasket failure, won't know for sure till full disassembly by Friday. Shop is suspicious do to low mileage and no loss of oil or coolant, we'll see. I'm sure multi $1000's for sure.
Your symptoms point to coolant in the combustion chambers = blown head gasket or cracked block, both not good.
But before the huge expense of disassembly I would ask for a simple and fairly cheap test first.
You can get test kits where you bubble some coolant (while the engine is running) through a container holding special blue fluid connected to the expansion tank, and if the coolant contains CO2 (ie combustion gasses) the fluid turns green/yellow.

Lol. What!? Whenever any manufacturer comes out with a long nose front engine auto design folks here instantly claim it is an F-Type ripoff. The design hails back to the original 240Z, which was a beautiful and unique design and still is today. If anything, I'd almost say the F-Type mimics more design cues from that car than the original E-Type. In the end doesn't matter, execution of the F-Type design (thank you Ian) is far better than any of the modern Z cars in my opinion. I just want to give mine a hug everything I see it.
