Default 2nd Place Evo Car of the Year: F-Type Coupe R

"The R Coupe has it all: looks and presence, a thunderous soundtrack and ballistic performance."

Obviously agree Surprised by the low showing of the M4. I'd probably take the Vanquish on looks alone.

I did say (in the thread about F-type vs. Cayman) that the M drove like it looks...

Thanks for posting. The assessment of the Jag is spot on and why I bought the R Coupe.

Thanks for posting this report.. it was a fun read.
I wonder what the price difference is between the Ferrari and the Jag? My assumption is that the Ferrari is a lot more and it appears to be a great car.

The Jag F.R. has been the best car that I have ever owned by a mile and I love driving it every chance I get.

Even used, the 458 (non Speciale) is about $300K, so easily 3x the price of the Jag R. As weird as it sounds, the Jaguar F-Type Coupe R is probably the best value right now. You just can't get the same level of performance + style + luxury + wow factor anywhere in the $100K range.

I would say it's a toss-up between the F-Type Coupe R and the new C7 Z06, which has significantly better performance, slightly lower cost, less weight, certainly a wow factor, and if equipped with the new top-of-line interior is also pretty luxurious.

The C7 Z06 is not quite on the streets yet, but they can be ordered and will be delivered in a matter of months.

Huge fan of the C7 Z06. But brand-wise, no contest that Jag > GM. And for those that like uniqueness, a lot less F-Types on the streets than C7s. The latter is frankly why I left Porsche.

You are spot on. I keep telling people that the R Coupe is a value play, because its comps are like $160K and up. Seems funny to say $100K for a car is a "value"... but for the package, it's actually underpriced. Significantly underpriced.

Shift,

Not sure I completely agree. JLR is still weighted down by reliability questions, and Corvette reliability has gotten pretty bullet-proof. The performance comparison is no contest. Even though the Corvette is a GM brand, it is built exclusively in one assembly plant where no other model is assembled and functionally considered by most enthusiasts as not so much a part of GM.

While the std. C7 is not all that exclusive, the C7 Z06 will be far more so. If past production numbers hold for the new generation, they'll only build 7-8K or so per year, and many of those now go overseas. If the F-Type stays in production as long as most Corvette generations do (9 years or so), they'll become considerably more common, but they're still rare because we're only talking about 1.5 years of production.

Now obviously, I'm an F-Type fan, and I chose the base model F-Type because I'm no longer interested in over-the-top performance in my nearly daily-driver. However, my C6 Z06 was one of the top 3 best cars I've ever owned.
