Price is a big factor in choice, let's not kid ourselves. The only Porsche to compare is Carrera S, the AMG GT is the model not available yet, plus maybe 2 year old used cars. R8's are now $175k and up, the AMG GTS well equipped is $160k, and plenty of $150k+ Porsches. I would love to consider a new McClaren 570s but it starts at $185k! The Jag fills a very interesting niche. New car tech will always be behind due to long development time of cars, years! Jaguars are always tourers why would anyone who spent time researching expect it not to be.Porsches are overpriced just like Ferrari's that is why they are the 2 most profitable car lines in the world! That doesn't mean they don't sell as money is only relative to how much you have and what you care to do with it.

Plenty of improvement room left in the sub $100k category (V6) as well.
1) Shifter throw too long.
2) Second gear ratio too tall. (as a result, car needs more torque)
3) Clutch too weak (couldn't handle the extra torque anyway)
4) At 3500 lbs, about 300 lbs too heavy.

Of course, much of this could be resolved by opting for the AT, but, for me, the driving experience is still far superior with the MT. With the aesthetics, and driving excitement offered by this car, I cannot think of any alternative (available in the U.S.) that can offer serious competition to the F-Type in the sub $100k category.

Start pulling off the $ limits, though, I'd be trading up to a DB10. (I hear an auction is coming up). We know that'll have an MT.

According to the interview I saw with Marek Reichman, there are no plans to actually turn the DB10 into a production vehicle. The tech they developed for the movie cars will clearly make its way into the next gen car, but it won't be the same as what they built for the bond movie. They gave no ETA on when a new car would be coming out, and kind of implied it will be some time.

My thoughts on this are that they will likely introduce a real DB10 eventually, but maybe they're doing another DB9 refresh first? The DB10 is based on the VH Platform (same as the Vantage) anyway, so that doesn't seem unreasonable.

As for auction, those 10 movie cars would make great collectors items. I don't think I'd want one as a daily driver though. From what I've seen, they're functional cars but don't have HVAC, infotainment system, or many of the other features you'd expect in a Aston Martin. Plus they're likely to go for quite a bit if they were to go at auction.

Lack of HVAC might be a non-starter, but I don't need any of the rest of that ¢rap to enjoy driving a car. It's mostly a distraction to me. It's all theoretical since I'd rather spend the rest of my life with my lovely bride than a $1M+ car. The two are mutually exclusive options.

Hello,
my name is Nick and i come from Germany. I am F Type r awd owner since July.
I am really content with the Jag as i am a fan of exotic and rare cars. Initially my choice would have been the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 but bad/high pricing and arrogant customer Services here in Germany (in my area) and overheating issues made me rethink.
I decided to buy the jag due to good pricing, good Looks and nice grandtouring qualities.

After some months i like most:
1) the noise-> thinking of capristo meanwhile
2) the Looks-> really rare in my area, many ferrari, lamborghini and way too many Porsche
3) ride Quality is for me as i drive most the time on the Autobahn Rally good compared to me other cars before

Alas i get used to many things like the ferocious acceleration although it lacks the top end Autobahn Speed from +200kmh. Audi R8 V10 plus is much faster whatsoever it only matters on the german autobahn or on the dragstrip). This lets me Kind of regret my opportunity of shopping a 2012 McLaren mp4-12c. I got a good offer nearby.

Dont know if i keep the jag longer than 2-3 years...still great cars comming like the McLaren 570s which always will tempt me . Tend to save some money and then upgrade to another Level.
But you know what? I am a fortunate man. Being able of driving this kind of big toys i am thankful every day i drive my cat.

Best regards from germany
Nick

I thought the R was good for at least 290 km/st.

I recall seeing a video showing someone in a stock FTR getting the car up to 199 mph (320 km/h) on public roads, as crazy as that sounds, so its certainly possible. I imagine it would take a while to get up to that speed and requires the car being in dynamic to exceed the 186 mph (300 km/h) limiter, but it is doable.

I assume Luciddream is mentioning that the car accelerates much slower at 200+ km/h (125 mph).

Yes above 125mph the car slows a bit down. I dont know if it is due to the gearing. I only have the comparison to an Audi R8 V10 Plus 550hp and my former BMW M5 560hp. Both cars are significantly faster from above 125mph. I dont know what the Jag takes from 0-186mph? I think it is about 40sec.

@Merlin
Yes the car can reach about 317 kmh (tested here on the Autobahn) which is about 305-307 GPS verified Speed. German speedometer are not that accurate.

Are you referring to the V6 or the V8. From what I've seen elsewhere, the V8 pulls pretty well to the higher speeds. There was a recent 1/2 mile airport drag race and I think an R coupe hit 150mph, same as the other stock 500-ish cars. The aero on the R8 is better probably and has a little better power/weight.

I suspect it might be something to do with the gearing as the R doesn't have any lack of power, it is an English car with its biggest market In the U.S. So most buyers will never get it to autobahn speeds. I suspect they biased the gearing to acceleration at lower speeds. Mine (V6S not R) does a lot of 0-100kph sprints but so far has barely touched 160kph/100mph.

Yup I was hitting about 154mph (radar checked) consistently at the half mile with a rolling start. It was around 95 degrees out as well.

I appreciate the shout-out. Despite my grievances, I still love the car.
