I admit I'm not an audiophile (but I do like my music loud), on the 770w system, I was playing with the knobs.
Try this set up:
Use the default Balance and Fade.
Notice that the bass is really low and SW high. This prevents too much bass being sent to the smaller speakers. Seemed to give me an improved sound.
Very small movements of the bass slider at that level made significant changes and I could dial in different music genres pretty easily (jazz vs rock). Seemed to sound good at all volume levels too.
Worth checking out.
Mike, thanks for sharing this. This makes the music semi-bearable until I take it to the dealership again...lol. I actually have noticed that the bass level has a huge affect on the sound resonance/rattling.

Yes, she's right, after earsplitting volume level, the system sounds great anything below "very loud" it sounds like an old AM or 8-track system from -70's
Despite the low bass setting, the overall performance is not what it should be. Just when I thought CD performance was palatable I inserted Stevie Wonders, Songs in the Key of Life CD, one of the better recordings from a technical production standpoint. It was pretty mangled on my system. I'm not sure what the fix would be here. If some are performing well it could be a bad head unit. I can't resolve it using the controls where a particular setting works across different modes and a variety of music. Was glad to hear the 2017 car seemed to performing.
Try using Aux input with a good player (I use FIIO X3), FLAC at 96/24 or 48/24 bit rates, sounds very good, but of course, it does not have any controls or music info displayed.

I agree, this is what makes it sound excellent. Shame we have to stoop to these "fixes", but it does help. Great advice to the forum member!!

This would lead one to believe that the cd, radio, and satellite radio are the problem. I've started a networked home digital system with 96/24 and 48/24 either downloads or ripped files, so this would fall in step. I have an auralic mini I am using at home.I'll look into the FIIO X3. Would like to use the SD radio, but its not tolerable at times.Thanks.
The amazingly poor quality Sirius codec makes satellite radio unbearable for me in the F-Type. I have XM receivers in my other vehicles and boat, huge difference in quality.
I guess I got very lucky with my car. I have no issues with the stereo in my car on any source (Sirius, CD, Bluetooth, FM, AM) and have been very surprised with how good it sounds; however, I'm an audiophile and expect the car to sound a certain way and that's why I'm upgrading the stereo system. It goes in tomorrow and should be back in a week or two.
Given you're appreciation for music, and that you have a 2016 (770w?), my equipment must be defective. What type of home system do you have? Would also be interested to hear what your installer has to say about the Merdian system.
yes I have the 770W in the 2016. They got in it and made some adjustments on it and made it sound great until they did the install which is tomorrow. They thought it sounded like crap in the beginning, but made it sound decent for a stock radio. Obviously when you upgrade to 3 way speakers in the car and add a top processor it will be like a symphony in there.
A.) You are one generous dad...lol.
B.) Not to discredit her opinion, but are you sure she wasn't overwhelmed just to drive that car?
1. Ha, yeah, it was quite fun watching her drive it.
2. Yes, and worse, she was listening to such crap (G-Easy, really?) that it completely disqualified her judgement.
well, my 2015 R is in for the second time for the rattling speakers/stereo, i'll post an update once i get it back (after the first time...zero improvement)

nothing at all. I drove from the dealership to them to plan out the stereo install. They wanted to listen to the stock system and said that sounds like crap. I said I didn't even listen to the radio, I listened tot he exhaust on the way over. They made some tweaks in the head unit and indeed it sounds great. Now tomorrow I drop it off to them for the next week or two so they can tear it apart and rebuild it.

When you say tweaks, did they pull the dash out and do something physically to your head unit, re-program it somehow... or did they just go to settings and play with bass, treble and fader?

Sorry for the delay. Using the head unit they made changes to the sound and believe it or not it really made a difference. I just dropped it off to the them to do their magic. Expected to have everything done in a couple weeks. I'm not rushing them as I know building the fiberglass box is going to take some time between drying etc. Then building the pods for the 3 way system will take some time then doing the vinyl work right will be additional time. I'm laid up recovering anyway so not like I could be driving it anyway. Can't wait to hear how it sounds when it comes back
