About to purchase a 2018 F-Type R

Afternoon Gents! First post here, hopefully not my last.
I've been eyeing the F-Type for about a year now. After a lot of research I've settled on the 2018 as I think it gives me the best bang for my buck. Most people I ask about the F-Type know nothing about it so I thought I'd come here for some questions I have.
Firstly, how's the reliability of these? I've owned Land / Range rovers in the past and they were a bit of a headache. I'm hoping the track record has improved a bit?
Secondly, is there anything I should know before purchasing this vehicle? Maybe avoid this or avoid that or something might be a better option?
Thanks in advance everyone!

The perceived reliabilty of Jaguars is what's made them so affordable in the used market. Hope nobody wises up to the fact that they're no less reliable than most other makes nowadays or used prices may rise. As you've observed, most of the poor reviews come from people with zero experience of the brand.
The main headache is finding the one you like, most are individually specified so options and colours can be quite varied.
Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Depends on your definition of best bang for the buck. 2018 will get you the updated interiors and refreshed front end but still hasn't gone through its depreciation curve completely. 2017 IMO would be your best bet as most should still be under factory warranty and have CPO warranty on it and have gone through most of it depreciation.

R is usually pretty well specced. But decide which elements matter to you and check they are there. Hard to be too choosy on color, interior etc given the relatively small number that turn over. I would focus more on one that's well maintained and cared for. And lots are low mileage second or third cars so you could easily get under 10-15k miles on the clock. Often well under that
Would personally want to avoid one that has been tracked and tuned. (Jag can confirm if it's ever had a tune. Tracked a bit harder to tell...)
Would search nationally and be prepared to buy the right one sight unseen if from a reputable dealer. That will give you the best selection.

If you're still in the market I'd add that you should try to be aware of what options the car comes with. For example the "Climate 2" and "Exterior Black Design Package" alone add $4k to the new price. Others like wheels, park assist, powered tailgate, upgraded Meridian sound system all add more to the value. One F-Type is not identical to another based on year and mileage alone.
I recently picked up a super clean low mileage 2018 R from Carvana after several months of hunting. They had they best price by far for the year and it came with a 7-day return policy for any reason. If you can't find one in your local area to check out personally (where I live there were almost none within hundreds of miles) check out companies like Carvana, Carmax, and Shift which come with return policies.
