Default Careful with this...

Our air conditioner went out as well and I made sure the pump was off. Turned out fittings were lose and the refrigerant had leaked out (it is also a lubricant for the compressor and you can fry your compressor if you run it without refrigerant). All fixed now but if you have this problem suggest turning the air off until you get it fixed or know what the problem is.

After 2 months of working after the valve and freon were replaced my AC is not working again. Only blowing hot air. I am an hour from the dealer and cannot get there until next week. 91 degrees today and no AC. Not a happy camper. This should not be happening again on a $100,000 car for something as common as the AC.

That's unfortunate. You might ask the dealer if they can pick it up and leave you a loaner, as this is the 2nd time. Or tell them you'll have it repaired locally and send them the bill (not that they'd go for that, or that you'd want to do that.)

It shouldn't happen again so soon. Something is obviously causing that valve to fail in a short period of time. I'd suggest to the dealer service manager that they look deeper, such as perhaps replacing the compressor and associated wiring as it sounds it may be suspect, because after the 3rd visit the "lemon law" kicks in, and you would have clear and documented evidence to win a claim for replacement. I'd also ask that they drive a loaner to you since this is the 2nd time for the same thing.

I remember one other similar case reported on the forum, but not a repeat of the same thing within a few months. For over a year, mine has been blowing so cold on hot days, that I have to turn it up to 73+ in a convertible on 90ºF days.

Excellent advice for Lovemonet. My car has, so far, not had any problems. I hope that Lovemonet can find a permanent fix to her AC problem.

It's a tough trade-off - the inconvenience of 4 hours of driving, 1 of which would be without A/C (two 2-hour round trips) vs. having some yahoo drive your car for 2 hours.

Believe it or not, i wish mine would go out all together, as it would be easier to deal with the dealer. On mine, it goes out for a few seconds and then it kicks back in. Issue is that when it goes out, aside from blowing warm air, it is extremely humid.

In the 5 days they had my car the last time, they obviously "could not replicate the issue".

I will have to go there and show the tech, although a short low/high pressure test on the system should be enough.

I have a copy of the TSB but for some reason i cannot upload it here. Please PM me if you need a copy.

Default AC service bulletin

There is a service bulletin for the compressor turning off intermittently. It is an easy fix under one hour - so they say. Mine will be fixed next week ( hopefully).

I am taking my car in for service on Wednesday. It has already had the valve replaced. Do you have a copy of the service bulletin for the compressor you can share?
