i have some leakage at the exhaust joints. Any views on whether this amount is normal?

What you are actually seeing is the soot from the carbon inside the pipes, it mixes with the condensation, and will find the tiniest of avenues to get out, and cause staining, such as you see in the pictures. While it hints toward a leak. In all actuality you probably can't feel any exhaust coming from the area, as it's truly not a leak as far as the exhaust is concerned. So yes it's completely normal unless, you can actually feel the hot exhaust coming out don't worry about it. Hope it helps.

+1. The pipe has been designed to drain condensation at that point. If you want, you might want to check the clamp nut to ensure that it is tight.

Looks like a bit of surface corrosion maybe? I was thinking about whether we should be cleaning or treating the underside of the car (while I was washing my ceramic and film coated topside). I don't drive mine in winter, but would an undercarriage wash (only) at automated drive through provide any benefit? If I'm hijacking I can start another thread.

If hijacking a thread were a crime, many of us would be facing a life sentence.
It's most likely just staining from the soot dripping through there. Anything you might coat the tailpipe with would burn off unless you apply a true plasma sprayed thermal ceramic coating to the pipe.

Kind of glad I can't see the underneath of mine right now. It would probably make my eye start twitching.

Oh, and I'm glad hijacking isn't a crime since I'd have been executed by now.

Had a proper look underneath today and yes there is some sooty water coming from both slip joints but also found a small hole on the weld where the pipe meets the main box so I might get a second opinion from my dealer just in case.

re the corrosion - yes I was surprised at the level of corrosion on some of the components obviously the steel bits including the cross brace, stop links and rear tie rods.
