I've read & re-read pages 90 & 91 in my 2017 owner's manual, & still a little confused.
Can someone translate into American English?
Page 91:
Note: Active exhaust is automatically selected when the vehicle is in Dynamic mode
Press the switch to engage the Active exhaust. The switch lamp illuminates to confirm activation.
Press the switch again to disengage the active exhaust system. The switch lamp extinguishes to confirm deactivation.
Note: Active exhaust is disengaged at the start of each ignition cycle.
Does that mean when engine starts at 9am, it's off, & when I switch to Dynamic mode, it's auto on, & I don't need to hit that button?
When I go to lunch at 12pm, engine starts, Dynamic mode is still auto on (within 6 hours), so active exhaust is also auto on, & I don't need to hit button again?
When I go home at 5pm, is Dynamic mode still auto on, or is the 6 hours auto on is done?
Since Dynamic mode is always on,active exhaust is always on also?
Thanks,
Pic of my V8 R auto:
Dynamic mode on. Upper right button in the 4 middle square button...
From my experience: If I hit the active exhaust button, it automatically turns off when you turn off the car. If you put it in Dynamic mode, it stays in Dynamic (exhaust loud) until you turn dynamic off, regardless of whether or not you turn the car off.
Every single time you start the car, it starts in 'loud' mode for the first couple of seconds. There is no quiet start. After a couple seconds, it quiets. I have no problem with this.
You basically have it right. Active exhaust turns on and off via the button which is lit up in your pic. Once you turn it on, it stays on until you turn the car off. Next time you start the car, it defaults to quiet mode, regardless of how long the car has been off. Like eeeek said, during startup, it’s loud, but once started, it defaults to quiet.
The dynamic mode button, which is in the top left of your pic, adjusts throttle response and steering sensitivity (based on how you have set it up), as well as turning on the louder exhaust. It also changes the gauge lighting from blue to red as a visual indication that it’s on, and turns off “eco mode”, which turns off the engine at stoplights. Unlike the active exhaust button, dynamic mode stays on for six hours, regardless of how many times you turn the car off and on. It won’t turn off while the car is running, but once the car has been off for six hours, it defaults to off, and you’ll have to turn it on again by pressing the dynamic mode button again.
Great info.
But turning on Dynamic mode doesn't auto turn off eco mode, you still need to hit that button manually to deactivate after turning on dynamic mode, right?

You're right, it must be vehicle & year specific, since my 2017 R V8 is not auto deactivate.
Jaguar should standardize this feature & should understand the rational that:
1. Yes, that eco mode is there for CAFE gas saving standards
2. But once drivers determine that they want to do some spirited driving by manually switching Dynamic mode on, that they don't care about gas mileage, & Eco mode should be deactivated automatically...
I keep hearing about ECO mode on the F type. I have an ‘18 F type R and have never seen this mode. Is this a cylinder deactivation system and is it on my car? Like I said, I’ve never seen or read anything about this mode. Thanks!

no eco button near your console shifter? Eco turns the engine off when you stop and then restarts it when you release the brake.
Oh, is that what people are referring to! That’s simply an auto start-stop deactivation switch. I’m thinking eco mode like GM and Chrysler put in their cars, a cylinder deactivation system. I always disable the start-stop feature when I drive the car...too old school, I’m always thinking it’s hard on the starter and don’t care for it. Thanks for explanation!

If you hate the stop/start (many do) and always disable it every time you get in the car then your best bet is to permanently disable it, very quick and easy to do, saves faffing about with the "eco" button and prevents that awkward Doh! moment when you forgot to hit the eco button and the engine shuts down when you least expect it.
If you have an older F-Type with the auxiliary battery just unbolt the earth lead that runs from the negative terminal from where it bolts to the floor of the trunk.
If you have a later model F-Type with only one battery simply pull one plug, the one with purple and white wires.
Plenty of threads and posts here on how to do this.
OzXFR....sounds like your suggestion makes sense. I’ve never been one to pull fuses or cannon plugs, etc. from a car of mine, so I’ll probably stick with the simpleton method! But thanks for the idea!!
