Default Add a rear camera

I recently bought a 2017 F type with less than 2000 miles from a non- Jaguar dealer. The window sticker listed "Rear View Camera", but when I got it home and started learning about the car, I couldn't find it. i took it to the Jag dealership, and they said the sticker was incorrect and the car didn't have the camera. I got a great deal on the car, so I didn't make a big deal about it, but then I started wondering about how much trouble it would be to add the camera. Any ideas for a DIY project? New to the forum, appreciate the help.

Default Costco

Costco has a very easily installed license plate frame camera with a 5 inch LED screen. The screen is a bit awkward and less you want to mount it on the windshield, I just stick it in the cupholder. And it was only $126

For $126 retail you might think JLR could have included a rear view camera in their $80 K cars.

They do, but only on those where the option is selected. They charge a little more than $126 for the privilege though.

Use caution, there is a little used, but sometimes enforced law in Fla. that states that "Nothing shall cover any part of the Fla. license plate so that it cannot be read in full from with in 100' from the car". I was given a 'Warning ticket' by an overzealous local cop one day because my license plate had the backup camera covering the letters"ORI". When I asked if he had nothing better to do at 9am on a Sat. morning than to stop me and check out my 1984 El Camino, he stated, "Don't pull an attitude with me mister". I shut up, took my warning ticket, then to the chief of police, and filed a complaint. Side note, this particular cop was later fired for separate problem a few years later.
This law is used by law enforcement to stop anyone legally to check for any number of causes. One lady(62 yrs. old at the time) I know was stopped by FHP on I-75 and made to removed license surround with screw driver(supplied by him) while he waited on the side of the road.

With that kind of response, I personally would’ve found 18 other things to ticket you for.
Even if he had/has issues, no need to test his patience.

I am normally very respectful of 'LEO's, especially since at the time I was a federal agent myself, but did not identify myself, just to see where he was going with this. He had followed me into a private business parking lot, then turned on all his lights("lite me up". to impress his partner??). I did't see him behind me due to the angle until I started to get out of my car. Suddenly I hear, "Sir, DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE!!!" over his PA. Then he literally prances over to my car, asks if I know why he has stopped me. Then proceeds to explain Fla. Statute #126-*****,which he just happens to have a copy off !!!! My license surround is literally covering the letters "ORI" in the word "FLORIDA as it arches over the top of the license plate. That is what he has stopped me for at 9:30 in the morning on a sleepy Saturday morning, and he followed me into the parking lot of ACE Hardware to make the stop. Yes, he had nothing better to do, and that is what I asked the Chief of Police when I went in on Monday morning to have a cup of coffee with him.
Two years later, this officer was released from duty for among other things allowing his K-9 officer to attack a bicycle rider who refused to stop when told to. The dog was allowed to inflict injuries to the rider that required 3 days hospitalization. Witnesses stated that the police officer stood by while the K-9 continued to bite the rider who was struggling to get away from the dog. The officer made no attempt to call off the K-9 until people nearby started to yell at the cop. City was sued(successfully) for $5 million.

I grew up in a major metropolitan area and when you were young, or a minority, and made a small mistake you got pulled over. But your dad explained to you how you had to behave and what you had to do with the Benjamin you kept for such emergencies. When I got out of school and was making my way in the world, one of the first things I did was get a set of plates that said "Close Personal Friend of the Secretary of State." After that all I got was a wave.

This has been extensively covered in the forum (see here), but simply.... there are some aftermarket products, which is the cheapest and easiest route, NAVTV seems to be one of the most popular (which can also add a front camera), or you can retrofit the Jag camera. Both routes will see your car pulled to bits :-), but the OEM solution also needs an edit of the CCF.

Just read an akward story on another forum. Guy had an after marker reversing cam installed by a specialist. Few months later the cars main computer packed in.
Garage charged € 1000,- just to find out what was wrong, blamed it on the reversing cam. Though Volvo Germany replaced the computer as service... [XC60].
Weird story, but better be warned who gets to work on your car...

I'm on the XK forum but have had success with this company for aftermarket DIY. No affiliation but I recommend using their eBay store for faster and cheaper shipping as they have a hong Kong warehouse too and I've received my orders within 24 hours.

I did just find other threads here on this topic, seems getting my own kit with its own screen is the best solution. I still could use some tips for running the camera wire from the rear tag to inside the trunk and tapping the brake light power line ( or any 12v source and the camera can stay on and I'll put a switch at the monitor power ). If using a wired camera, looking for any tips to get that wire from the truck to the cab.

The Garmin system I use on my Xk8 works Great thru a 7.5" GPS display. Check with Garmin to see if they have a system to transmit to existing displays.
