Default Aftermarket Exhaust/Muffler - should you block the valve vacuum lines?

Hey all

When you fit an aftermarket exhaust / muffler, what should you do with the vacuum lines that switch the exhaust valves? (that are now redundant) Should you block them off or just leave them open?

Thanks in advance

Any idea if you have the electric vacuum pump, or a vacuum line running back from the engine? Think it was either MY16 or MY17 here (MY15 or MY16 for you, I think) when they got rid of the vacuum pump.

I would probably plug the lines if you think they might ever be used again. If you have the vacuum pump, I'd pull fuse F43, which powers down the pump and solenoid.

The is for MY14 here (your MY13):

Pulling the fuse or disconnecting anything will result in a trouble code (it does if I do that on my 15).

Plug the line. It's not intended to be free breathing sucking on atmosphere all the time... plus the pump would be running nonstop if you have the pump, or until perhaps it times-out.

.

Huh. I've been running without the fuse for quite a while on my '14, and the car doesn't care. (My active exhaust valves are squeeky/grindy.) It does tend to drone at highway speeds.

It’s got the vacuum lines. Plugged at the moment.

Keep 'em plugged. Sucking road grime into any part of the system will be bad over the long haul.

How do you determine if the exhaust valve is functioning? I can't tell any difference when I have the sport exhaust switch on or off on my 2015 R.

Or get the valvetronic so you still have a switchable exhaust...

BoulderGT, if yours is working properly, I don't know how can there be no difference between sound level when you toggle between modes.

There is a big difference when below 3k revs, if you don’t notice a different either you don’t have the valved exhaust or yours isn’t working

Autozone sells vacuum line plugs. Plug them, no point in getting dirt up in them
