I was talking labour only for the ali pipe install.. Including parts that might be about right (someone in the UK is going to know better)

Also note I'm doing the water pump and the full EuroAmp kit, not just the pipes.

In the US, I got charged $330 just for the install at a dealership.

Called a few shops around here and was quoted 7-8 hrs from Jag dealership (just for the coolant pipe replacement), and around 9-10 hours from indie shops, for the entire kit plus supercharger coupler/oil and coolant change, which is inline with what I’ve seen…so about $2k here, your mileage may vary depending on labor cost in your area. Wish I had the time to tackle this project myself.

Did you forget a zero? That sounds crazy cheap, did they do all three and the water pump or was that just the one (or two?) you can get to without removing the SC?

he was the one who’s mechanic could do it by not removing the supercharger.

That makes sense. Must've been an hour or two, that's a whole lot better than a day!

Bloody hell I was expecting about 20 hours, based on me being about half the speed of a full time mechanic... if it turns into 60 hours I'll be upset 😂 Surely 30hrs for a pro must be on the very very long end of what's reasonable? My Jag indy is about au$150/hr so 30hrs would be $4500 just in labour 😱

As I have stated in numerous posts on this thread, and have provided a video of the procedure, the supercharger does not have to be removed to replace all the coolant pipes. Unless you need to service your supercharger or get to it for some other reason there is no need to remove it. What gets removed is the water pump, a simple enough procedure once the top coolant pipe is removed. And that is done just to make things easier. My mechanic has done this on Jaguars and LR and a friend who has an XJ just had his done. He has had absolutely no issues with this method and the only pipes he uses is RKX.

Thirty hours for this procedure is absolutely outrageous. My mechanic did mine in one hour thirty minutes..... with a ten minute break.....

I do need to service the SC and replace the coupler, and I have a test I want to perform that requires the SC off the car, so I'm going ahead with removing it. An hour and a half for the pipe job is awesome though, you're lucky to have found a mechanic that will/can do it.

P.S. can you link to the post with your video? Just went back through a few pages of your post history but it didn't jump out, maybe I'm going blind

I am considering an extended warranty like Car Shield to help cover the potential of coolant pipe failure repair. Anyone else?

Run, don’t walk. They’re notorious for finding every way possible to get out of honoring ANY claims.

It takes me 30 minutes (not including setup time - gathering tools, prep, etc) to disassemble everything (intakes, fan, belts, hoses, throttle body, etc) and remove the supercharger. Takes a bit longer to put it all back together again.

The problem where I’m located, enforcement requires litigation which’s time consuming and expensive. It’s much easier and cheaper to just pay for the repairs or better yet negotiate with the main dealer.

Actually watched that video maybe 6 months ago. Unless I’m missing something, it’s only a minute long and doesn’t show the mechanic doing anything other than pointing fingers at the engine. No disrespect but I’m still not convinced. I’ll update when I actually try this method again.

I am not try to convince you but rather suggest that there is a viable alternative method to get to the coolant pipes. The mechanic is pointing fingers at what bolts and angles are used to get to and remove bolts . The rest for a DIY person or a technician is pretty self explanatory and does not require a 27 minute video of how to remove the pipes. If you can get to the bolts the pipes can be removed.

I called my mechanic today and asked him how many of these he has done this. He said well over twenty with no issues at all. I do know that four of those are my personal friends and none of us have had any issues whatsoever.

Whether you choose this method or the removal of the SC is your decision. My point was simply that some members were quoted rather outrageous sums to do this job because it required the removal of the SC. As I have stated several times here if your SC is coming off anyway for some other reason then this is a good time to do the pipes. If you are removing the SC just to get to the pipes then you might want to discuss this method with your mechanic.

I can only say that I am very happy with the results I obtained and the fact that I saved a great deal of money makes the results even better.
