ANOTHER oil overfill thread .....

The published oil capacity for the AWD 5.0 liter V8 is 6.9 quarts (US) or 6.5 liters with a filter change. I made a mark on the side of my Mityvac with a Sharpie that was right at 7 quarts if I recall. When I did the first oil & filter change at about 1250 miles I kept pumping the Mityvac until it was not sucking out any more oil and I removed just under 6.75 quarts. I figured that there was a few ounces in the filter and sump remaining so 6.75 quarts seemed about right.
When I refilled the sump I first used a graduated container that had 28 ounces of oil in it. I poured 2 or 3 ounces of that oil into the bottom of the filter cannister mount to "prime" it, installed the filter and torqued the cap with a digital torque wrench. Then I poured the remaining oil into the filler hole. After that I poured the contents of six 1 quart bottles of oil into the filler hole. Checking with the electronic gauge always showed about 1 click below the highest level mark and I never got an overfilled warning.
I am a bit OCD at times but after crawling around underneath my vehicles to do oil changes since about 1971, approaching an oil and filter change on my Jag like a surgical procedure with a Mityvac and digital torque gauge was actually a very enjoyable task. And it was as mess free as I could have ever dreamed of !
