Well, I skimmed most of this thread, but I did find the bike analogy funny. Up until recently, I was a hard core weight weenie (yes, that's a cyclists forum) I have my Cervelo down to the UCI min. weight. And that was expensive
But I set some KOM's with that bike and it's worth it to me.
And I think that's what we're talking about here, it's not always rational/ROI based or we all would be driving a 3 cylinder micro car. You don't need a high powered sports car, do you?
PS- I got the SOS Limited Functionally alert, and the dealer inspection had already noted the battery was weak. So I just installed a 60AmpHr PowerTex lithium battery today. 40.2lbs lighter, so I'm up to a 52.6lb weight reduction! Yea, not much. But I do AutoX/track days and that battery weight on the drivers side just bugged me.

In other news, i have managed to drop a few kgs, mainly due to a respiratory virus that was rampaging through the state recently and which knocked me around for about 4 weeks. Now to keep it off without dropping our nightly bottle of sparkling.
Alas, the car feels no faster, but at least my wallet isnt any lighter. I did pop 40kg of road base into the boot on the weekend, and I could really feel it.

I own an rv with 406 ah of lithium batteries.
The BMS limits things. The batteries are not supposed to charge if the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The BMS prevents it.
The batteries are designed not to discharge if the temperatures are below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The BMS prevents it. .
Very expensive lithium batteries have a heater in them to allow more flexibility. Run by the BMS. Uses a lot of power.
The average BMS on rv batteries, solar, is a 100 amp model. Really not enough to start a big car.
Many folks in the Chicago area got an unpleasant surprise about the BMS in their cars one evening recently. .
I saw nothing about this issue on the battery website. Let the buyer beware?
The designer of the F type choose a battery the size he did for a design reason. Redesigning your car for a smaller battery is fraught with issues. Cold weather starting is one of them.
My car has summer tires on it so this would likely never be an issue. However, not universally true.
Lithium as starting batteries is years away I suppose. Unless you are careful.
