Oh, I have to take back my fart comment above, as our F-Type did get a complement.

A few weeks ago, I had the garage door open, getting my custom one-off sports car, "Midlana", ready for sale. Parked next to it was our F-Type, and I had my back to the street when the UPS guy stopped and walked up behind me with a delivery. I heard him say "Nice car!", and as I turned, saw that he was looking at the F-Type, not my custom car that I spent thousands of hours on. Oh well!

Went to Mirin Cafe in Escondido, CA the other day to get Ramen for dinner. Took the whip with the Wife so she could hold the food on the way back.

Took the drive through for pickup (awesome btw, order ahead and pickup window drive through) and the kid did a double take. Came back with our food and hung out the window and said "Dont mind me, just wanna watch you drive away" with a big grin on his face. Rev'd a few times for him.

Huh, I'm in San Marcos and I know of another one near here as well. I think one reason why these cars seem so rare is because they're mostly weekend cars, and I stick with my claim of only seeing 2-3 between 2015 to before we started looking at buying one ourselves.

Made a quick run to the store yesterday after dinner (I just had to have some ice cream). I come out and there's only one car in the lot besides mine - a jeep with a middle aged attractive couple getting out. I start the F-Type up, put it in Dynamic mode to get some nice gurgles, drop the top, and slowly make an arc to leave. They are getting ready to cross into the store so I wait, but she stops both of them and says to me "No you go - I wanna HEAR it!"

So I did and they did.

At a car club drive a Ferrari Roma pulled up next to my car (coupe, 2016). Parked it.

Bystander looks around and says "your car looks way better." He owned a nice car....made me smile. I think the Ferrari owner heard him.....the look on that person's face was priceless....

I never said a word.

The Roma is a rich man's F-Type, but poorly implemented. Well, maybe not poorly, but not as well implemented.

Default Mistaken Identity

As I was in queue leaving the UNC Alumni Club parking deck, a couple of gentleman walked past on the way to Carolina's baseball game. It's Spring and the top was down, so they paused on the way by to compliment the F-Type. Then, one of them asked if I had ever been to Italy. It gave me a moment's pause, before I guessed what was on his mind. After I responded "Yes," he asked if I had been to the factory. I responded "Yes" again, "I've been through Castle Bromwich. His turn to pause - then I point to my Jaguar hat. I know I'm not the first to have bystanders confused by the brand.

I also had a nice encounter on the way into the garage. Because it was game day, the garage was packed and nothing was open in my usual area. As I was cruising for an alternative (and not having much luck), a guy walking past stop to say, "First of all, beautiful car. Also, there's a space that just opened up over in the front corner."

To non-car people, the last 50 years of Porsche 911s all look the same. Depending where you live, that can mean they're so common that they're virtually invisible. I thought that "I don't care what other people think or drive", yet found myself not wanting a 911 because they're so common. Color me humbled, and bought a F-Type.

My wife's Lincoln was in the shop this week and I needed my truck for the day, so she took the F-Type. Late in the afternoon I was on my way to the hardware store and I saw a car in traffic coming toward me that I just couldn't figure out. It was dark, wide, and low and looked mean as hell. As we were closing in on each other and it got close enough, I realized that it was my wife coming home from work in our car. I've stood in front of it in the garage hundreds of times just looking at it, but I've never been high up in a pickup and seen it coming at me before from a distance. I was so surprised that I didn't recognize it at first, but I now understand the looks we get from others when we drive around. It's such a uniquely beautiful car from every angle - I fell even more in love with it!

I hate when people ask me if it is a Nissan. I get that ALL the time.

Went to pump petrol last week and had finished paying and just got back into my car. A older gent was walking in to pay when he saw my car and just froze right in front of the car as he was walking past and just stared. He was obviously appreciating the fine Lines before him .I didn’t want to start the car until he had gone inside to pay . I though he would move on but after a long 2 mins he wasn’t moving so I just had to start the car with the associated fireworks

Well, when the Honda S2000 first came out, one came alongside me at a stoplight, so I shouted over to the owner, "Hey, is that the new Miata? What's it cost, about $20K?" Some of them accusing you have having a Nissan have got to be messing with you. The others are proof that some people have very poor shape recognition!

Most see the front headlights and assume it is a 370z, so stupid.

Was at a gas station with the top down last spring. A guy was walking into the store and yelled, "awesome car" to which I promptly replied "thanks". At that moment the woman on the other side of the gas pump peered around and said, "why'd you assume he was talking about your car?". Me: "You're right, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have assumed. By the way, the maroon on your minivan really sparkles". She chuckled. Had my young son in the car so that's as far as that interaction went.

I was filling her up at a gas station a couple weeks ago. Beautiful Arizona day, top down. A middle age guy who had just finished filling up his car drove close to me and stopped. He said “Nice car, just make sure you give it a good wash before returning it to my garage”. We both laughed.

Here’s another one. About 6 months ago I was driving home mid day, top down, enjoying the awesome sound in dynamic mode, gear selector in sport mode, using the paddles. I didn’t immediately see the Porche Cerrera that had pulled up matching my speed on my right. We were slowing down as there was a red light up ahead in the distance. I was down-shifting, letting the roar ring out at every down-shift. As we came to a stop the porche driver yelled over “damn I love the sound of your car. Do you enjoy having the manual version?” I replied I do love this car but it’s an auto, not a manual, but using the paddles are so much fun. He gave a thumbs up and I felt like I had to say something nice about his car. All I could think of was “hey, I love the color of your car”. He gave me a nod and we drove off as the light changed.

You may have given him the only verbal affirmation he ever got on his Porsche.
