Anyone replace cup holder insert?
The bottom of mine is pretty scratched up... is this an easy DIY job? This seems to be the part: https://www.jaguarparts.com/oem-part...older-c2z14560

Or else do what I did - remove it permanently and line the box with some car carpet cut to size, makes a great storage cubby for sunglasses and other odds and sods.
I never ever drink or eat while driving and I forbid any passenger from doing so as well so I have zero use for cup holders.

As others have said, it can be removed easily, just pull it straight up. Mine was in there a bit tight and the rubber tabs would not come out. So, to get a better look at why they would not come out, I removed the cover (AT). Yeah, don't do that.
There are 2 springs at each end, and at least one of them will fly off to that place reserved for all the parts you never find at the end of a project. If you do find it again, there is a trick to getting them back on again and I would be happy to describe, but just don't.

There is a left and right side spring, but it should be obvious which one is which. The goal is to end up with the "U" shaped spring end hooked over the cutout on the cupholder side:
This one is the left side. The coil of the spring obviously goes over the short pivot shaft and the other end of the spring rests up in the corner. I didn't get a photo of it, but it's up in here:
The most difficult part, is that both springs have to be held in place and under tension, while you position the lid into the cupholder. Once the spring is in place, rotate it in the direction that will apply some tension and then hook the "U" shaped end under the 2 locating pins on the side of the lid. You can see them in this next photo:
If you are careful in locating the lid, the springs will stay in place until you can position it into the cupholder. Once it is located, in theory you should be able to use some needle nose pliers and move the "U" shaped end from the lid over to the cut out on the side. In practice, when I did it, one of them jumped over on it's own and the other one dropped off, but I was able to reach in with the pliers and get it onto the cutout. When locating both sides, be careful when locating the small pin that slides in the curved groove. It seems too easy to snap it off.
I had some problems trying to get both of the rotating shafts in place. It seemed like I was having to pry things too much and there is a lot of plastic in there to break, so I found it easier to pop out one of the plastic drive gears. Just lever it out with a small screwdriver and pop it back in afterwards:
Hope this helps!

I'd like to revive this thread and ask how to remove the cup holder insert for a manual car. It doesn't seem the pinch the center of the long side words for this. Also, if someone has a part number for this, that would be very helpful as mine has some scratches on the bottom metal. Thanks in advance.
