Default Anyone swap steering wheel trims?

I have the back pack performance S interior, and the old all-black flat-bottom steering wheel. I spotted a new P400 Dynamic in the dealers showroom the other day and it has silver trim on top of the wheel and at the 3rd spoke position. How can I change mine like that?

The plastic trims just pull out of the foam-coated wheel base and the replacements push in.

You need to release the airbag by pushing the spring wire clips towards the steering column until they release (use a mirror, do not sit in front of the airbag when doing that). You need the front wheels of f the ground, or engine on to engage the power steering as you need the wheel at 90 degrees left and right to get access to the clips. Then turn everything off, disconnect the battery for at least 2 minutes and then you can lift the airbag out and disconnect. Store it on the ground under the car so if it goes off it doesn't fly across the road and kill someone.

The spoke trim can then be pulled straight off and replaced.

The upper trim requires you to remove the switch packs and then paddles (as they are screwed to the rear of the switch packs). The paddles have one screw on the rear of each then 'hook in' to their holes. Unplug them as you need to route the wires back through the wheel. Remove the connectors from the switch packs and remove the cables from the little hooks on the rear of each and then the trim piece pulls straight off.

The whole thing takes about 15 minutes including waiting for the airbag circuits to safely discharge. After pushing the airbag back in use a mirror to check both sides have clipped in correctly.

All that to add a piece of chrome trim...I think not. (not for me anyway). Great "How-To", though.

Indeed, it does seem overly involved. I just think the chrome trim would be far easier to clean and keep clean than the rubberized plastic bits.

I have found that the steering wheel just needs to be dusted occasionally. I would think that the chrome would need to have the finger prints cleaned off on a regular basis.
