Default Aston Martin tires on my F-Type?

My 2016 F-Type R has the factory 20" Pirelli P Zeros on it. Recently, while I had some time to burn, I was studying all the labeling on the sidewalls. The 255/35-ZR20 fronts have a "JRS" identifier on the sidewalls. OK - that identifies a Pirelli Jaguar-spec tire. But the 295/30-ZR20 rears carry an "AMS" identifier. Digging around, I found that is a Pirelli Aston Martin-spec tire. What gives?

Another question: anybody find any aftermarket wheels that fit the "R" (for winter or all-season tire fitment)? All I can find on TireRack for the "R" are 21" wheels. Zero aftermarket 20" wheels. Something magical about Jaguar's 20-inchers?

Shhh - Mr. Pirelli says driving the P Zero Summers below 45-deg F invalidates the warranty (something about cracking in the treads). Plus I always wanted to drive 550-hp through an ice storm - fantabulous donuts.

I would be hugely surprised if AM shipped with garbage tires like Pirelli P Zeros.

The biggest handling upgrade you can make to F-type is to ditch Pirelli P Zeros for MPSS or MP4S.

You can get refurbed or perhaps even new F-Type wheels from midwestwheelandtire.com at a definite discount to dealer prices, (but still not totally cheap). I think either the 20" or 19" will in fact fit the 'R' since the brakes should be the same size as the V6 'S' which takes 19's. Note that the Ftype wheels are different widths front and back when looking - they will have entries for both front and rear wheels. People would probably recommend 19s for winter, being somewhat narrower than the 20s, but since SC I guess 20's with all seasons would do the trick.

As I recall FOOSH (was/is a member here) got a set of gyrodynes from them, complete with TPMS sensors and tires mounted for a good price - also saved a fair amount of hassle - you can just swap them yourself in the driveway if inclined.

Note that you might want to actually call them to verify what they have on hand or what they can get rather than relying on the website 'in stock' thing, especially if you want them to do tires/sensors/balance as well.

Ummm - if you drop into the AM forum, you will find discussions on the dreaded P-word as standard issue on some AMs. Agree on the MPSS - got them on the Track Handling Package on my BMW, fabulous handling.

If snow and excessive rain are not the issue, the Bridgestone Potenza RE050 offer far superior grip to Michelin... Track tested several tires.
I like my Pirelli P-Zero, track them at 31psi and road them at 41psi. Very predictable especialy in spirited drive and drift

There are a number of after market wheels that fit the f type. What are you looking for; something inexpensive for winter or a custom look different than oem?

Thanks for the suggestion of the 19-inchers. Looking at the humongous red front calipers on the R, I was thinking that only 20-inchers would fit, but 19's, hmmmm, would be a rather tight clearance? To keep the same staggered tire outer diameters as the 20's on the R would require 225/45-19 up front and 255/40-19 on the back. Are those the standard tire sizes on the V6 S with 19-inchers?

Really just looking for something not-hideous in the wheel department to mount some not-special all-season tires for the four or so months when the temps can drop enough to make the High Performance Summer tires a bit dubious, especially for the occasional trip into the mountains. For 19-inchers, my concern would be to have the correct offset to clear the calipers.

Later edit: found a couple of brands that offer all-season ultra high performance tires in the standard 20" R sizes (Nitto and Toyo). [tiresize.com looks like a very useful site]
So maybe will stay at the same R sizes. Any aftermarket 20" wheels with proper fitment for the R?

Not certain why others here aren't offering the All-season options that you are asking for but you can try to search based on SIZE rather than mfg vehicle brand. The Continental DWS are the tippy-top All Season tire for numerous other cars including the 315's on the rear of my X5 Diesel. I think you may have to go with the 285s for the rear on the Jag. I think the fronts can still be the 255's or possibly the 245s.

Don't put the 19's on an R. The front rotors are HUGE. There are a few 19" wheels that can work but one of the guys who tried it on here ran into some very, very, very small clearances. So small in fact that they had to re-position the interior wheel weights so that they didn't hit the calipers. Here is that that thread. Hope this helps...

The front rotors are identical in R and S with the High performance brakes (red calipers) 380mm.. The only difference between stock and red caliper brakes are the size of the rear rotors (376mm if memory serves me right).

EXCEPTION to that rule. In my case I opted for the upgraded brake system and an additional $500 gets you BLACK calipers. I don't like red calipers on a red car, especially when they are two very different reds.

Bottom line, 19" rims from a V6S go on an R with no issue

They are indeed a tight fit with 19, but ride quality is BETTER

I believe the V6 S has the same front 380mm super performance brakes as the R. 19" wheels are available on the V6 S so should fit the R just the same (unless anyone knows different).

Factory tires for the 19" are front=245/40ZR19, rear=275/35ZR19

Yep, they're slightly different overall diameters than for the 20s, but that's what Jag specify for the 19s.

Must depend on the wheel. My 19" Propellers have quite a bit more clearance than that.

Correct, the S has the 380 mm front brakes as standard and the 19" wheels juuuust fit over them. But pretty much only the F-Type 19" wheels, other 19" Jag wheels with maybe the exception of some XJ wheels do not fit over, and some but very few 19" after-market wheels fit over.
19" wheels are stock for the S, 18" are stock for the base and 20" are stock for the R.

Thanks to all for some really helpful replies. I'm of the Tommy John Underwear School of Caliper Clearances, so I think I will stay with the 20-inchers. Now all I have to do is find a tire/wheel set of all-seasons for annual "winter" usage...

Sounds like the Gyrodynes offered are refurbished wheels, albeit to a high standard. How did you like yours? Were yours the all silver Gyrodynes, or the charcoal with polished highlights variant?

Mine were the later (dark charcoal/diamond cut). They sure looked brand new to me. (but weren't, of course)
