Default Automatic Rear Hatch Squeaking

I've started to get a nasty squeak when lowering the automatic rear hatch. has anyone had this and is there a place where I can try to squirt some lubrication into?
Thanks

I reckon you need to narrow it done a fair bit.
When exactly does it squeak - on the way down, on the way up, both, at the start, at the finish, all the way through etc?
What type of squeak - low pitched or high pitched, constant pitch or variable pitch etc?
One side or both sides?
And, most importantly, exactly where from - you should be able to listen closely to the squeak from the outside as you raise and lower the hatch and be able to narrow it down to exactly which part or component is squeaking.
Then, depending on what you find, some lubricating spray or oil (eg WD 40, lithium grease etc) or plastic/rubber lube (eg Gummi Pfledge - spelling!) could do the trick.
Worst case scenario - one or both struts are knackered and need replacing = big $.

Thanks for the reply. High pitched squeak coming from the right strut on the way down. I suppose I could spray some lubricant where the strut telescopes?

Yep, that is the first thing I would try. You will also see that the strut itself rotates a few degrees so maybe try that too.
If that doesn't work then I can see three more spots to try some lube/spray - the two ends of the strut where it rotates on pins, and the hatch hinge right up by the roof.
On my car all three of these spots are a bit dirty (and I'm a bit OCD about keeping my car clean) and I don't get snow/sleet/mud etc which on your car could build up even more muck in these places.

Thanks. Seems to have worked. Sprayed the struts where they telescope and also on the ends where they rotate a bit on the pins. I was thinking it was going to be more of an internal issue in the struts....glad it wasn't :-) Thanks again

If the squeak comes back and you used an oil based spray like WD40 then I would try again with PTFE spray.
Lasts much longer and doesn't attract dust and dirt.

Thank you. I used this, which I think may be what you referred to?

Yep, that'll do the trick.
Same stuff as PTFE in effect, see here: https://www.nes-ips.com/teflon-vs-ptfe/
