Long story short, I found what is darn near a perfect bag for the recessed compartment in my 'vert:

Here are the details of the bag:
TORIBIO 25" Tripod Case, external dimensions are 25.59''×8.26''×8.26（65cm×21cm×21cm). This makes is a little bigger than the space at the bottom, but its soft sided design means it fils in the space well. The outside pocket also fits in the back cutout very well. I don't think I could have done much better without having one custom designed.

Huh, I had no idea the trunk configuration changed in the vert; must have been when they got rid of the ECO battery.

Pardon the mess, my car's been busy. This is US MY14, the battery is on the left where you have more well area.

 

Thanks so much for this find. We just got back from a long weekend where the trunk was filled to the top with several ill fitting bags.

I will be ordering one for sure.
