I was wondering if anyone would suggest a specific brand or style of dash cam for the Ftype. I wanted to install one for the front and back. I'd like them to be small of course so it doesn't restrict my view too much. And of course the cheaper the better, I'm not trying to film a movie or anything. I would mainly use it to record just in case of accidents or road rage stuff. I'm not well versed in the dash cams in general just FYI. Thanks!
I've got the Blackvue 650 too. Ran the wire to the rear view down the opposite side to the power, which I ran to the centre console power socket. Also wrapped wires in foil to avoid interference.
Bump for holidays, potential new products, and new experiences..... anyone? For those that bought the linked ones, did you have someone install or DYI. Also... does it run at all times?

Your timing couldn't be better. I ordered a cheap one from Amazon. BIG mistake. Upload times are impossibly slow. Buttons are not intuitive and instructions are not helpful. So, I just ordered a $16 iPhone windshield mount...I know how to use my iPhone for the very limited use I intend (recording mountain road drives).

I didn't think of using the iPhone dash mount for that purpose until now. Thank you!
So, now I have the iPhone mount and it works great for the short periods I want to record. But, when I put them up on YouTube, the resolution is not good (although it's HD on the phone). Any thoughts?

The issue is the file size is too big so youtube downsizes it. If you want it in HD, put it on Vimeo. You may need a VIMEO premium account depending on the size and resolution.

They are but as far as installing and forgetting it, the blackvue is the best bet. All the other options require you to constantly charge and mount the camera, versus the blackvue always turning on whenever the car starts, nothing extra to worry about.

Does the blackvue record when the car is off? or is it able to? assuming it runs off a battery?

Yes it does if you get the Power Magic Pro along with it. It allows the dash cam to run off the car battery. Once the power magic pro sees a drop in voltage, it shuts off the dash cam.
Just installed my Blackvue 2CH with Power Magic Pro last night. It took about 3 hrs, all wires tucked under trim and molding except for the rear hatch.
Tapped acc using "add-a-fuse" to the 20 front cigarette fuse and battery to an empty slot since they are always hot.
The Power Magic Pro allows the camera to function while the car is not on. I have it set up to cut power to the cameras if battery voltage drops below 22.8 or 12 hours, whichever comes first.
As for location of the front camera, this was best due to the wide angle of the lens, the mirror cover would block a portion of the camera if placed on the passenger side, and below the mirror was not feasible due to the sensor right below it.
that last picture gives me anxiety. I just wanna buy a little camera, stick it on the dash and go. Finished product on the black vue is pretty nice looking though.
My iPhone affixed to the dash phone mount pictured below takes nice hi-def videos. In addition, it also serves many other useful functions. Granted it's not running all the time, so it may not be on when you need it, such as documenting an incident or accident.
