Out of the 450 or so new coupes listed nationwide on CARS.COM, there are 6 that are amethyst - 3 R, 2 S and one base, so it would appear to be a fairly rare color.

Its difficult to tell what's 'popular' - in-stock cars are generally going to be what the dealer ordered, which may not be what customer would have ordered if he wasn't settling for whats on the lot. For example - there aren't really many BRGs with the camel leather & camel carpet interior, which I would have thought would be the defacto 'enthusiast' interior for BRG cars (or IRR or Sapphire for that matter). I hope that when JLR consider their available option offerings (which appear to be reduced for MY2016) that they pay at least some attention to custom ordered cars when analysing the statistics. A simplistic evaluation of statistics may well indicate that 'white cars with jet interiors' are the most popular (and sell best), but that may just reflect what the dealers have made most available on their lots...

Here in the DC area, well over 95% of the cars are greyscale from white to black and 18 shades in between (a primary reason I don't want another silver car). Just look at the number of greyscales offered by Jag compared with colorized cars (even some of those look black at low light levels). Green is requested so seldom that most marques don't even offer it anymore.

It's a color that has to be seen in person and in the sunlight to be really appreciated. It's not for everyone, but I think that's why I like it. Definitely my favorite F-Type color. Bummed it's being replaced....

I work at Galpin Jaguar out in LA and order all the Jags for our store. I'd never seen Black Amethyst in person....so I ordered one! We have a Black Amethyst R Coupe in stock now with Jet/Ivory seats and full Ivory leather headliner.

I'll have to stop by for a visit. I wonder how close it is to the Panther Black that Audi puts out. That definitely had a strong purple tint in bright sunlight. Black in anything else.
