Default Black Smoke on cold start 😵😵

Fellow Jags, I just took in my F Type R for some black smoke and a pretty fair amount of excess carbon build up. Hoping it turns out to be a minor issue. And also the left side front dash rattle...

Car has 17k miles and 1st service was done at 12k.

My new R has a ton of excess carbon bulld up only after 700 miles. I just assumed it was normal.

Black soot building up on the tips is normal within a few short miles. Visible black smoke is not under any circumstances (white "smoke" perfectly ok) on startup. Is it truly black smoke, or a bit bluish? Does the black deposit on the tips feel oily/gummy or more powdery?

I think if you are seeing black smoke, its time to go to the dealer. That is not normal.

Oh yeah I took it back on Friday. I'm thinking it's the injectors. I will post when I get an official diagnosis....

Zmoothg, does your smoke a little right at start up? Dealer said he could not find an issue. Service guy said that the tech data logged fuel trim at idle and driving and it all checked out. So I'm stumped for now.

If it's blowing oil, they won't see it on their scopes.

IF it is burning oil you will need to do oil consumption test. Otherwise it is hard to detect unless it is very large amounts that would leave oil deposits inside exhaust.
