Still not a fan of the plastic-dip. The black looks great on the firesand but Id prefer a gloss finish. fyi you can get exact replica leapers on eBay and they ship fast (1week):
Its taped but has 2 nibs to align it, the other badges are just taped.
I do agree about the gloss finish but you can't spray the badges and expect the paint to last very long!!
They look great. Let's hope some aftermarket company or Tata comes up with the black. It's the yellow license plate that is the killer to the effect of the blackout items.

I think you can. A lot of people on the M5 board have painted badges and they seem durable. I assume they strip the chrome first or prep the surface in some way. IND-Distribution makes the painted badges.

Yes, you sand and fill then apply the proper coating before the gloss paint.
didn't want to hijack the other thread any more than I already did, so resurrecting this old thread about badges...so after removing the "-TYPE" I was left with the F and the R, but the chrome plastic always have annoyed me so finally decided to white them (leaper was already white). Quality on the "R" isn't great, might have to redo it soon.
I think at this point I would just remove the F completely because the font looks a bit awkward without the " - type" on there. To each his own (my car's badges are intact). There are not a lot of ways to personalize this car.
Is there a gloss black plastic dip? Assume you are leaving the badges on the car when doing it? How many coats?
Not sure if there is a gloss black, but the same plasti dip company sells a clear glossifier. I think that's how you would do the gloss black: black first, then glossifier. Yup, you can just leave the badges on. Coats...I think it just depends on your patience...I did 3-4, but the more the coasts the easier to feel. The main thing is when you peel you want a nice clean peel. If it's too thin the peel isn't clean, so you might have to do it over again.
I took everything off expect the leaper. Will pay a picture when I'm done. How does the plasti dip hold up to washing? I'm doing 4 costs of black and 3 gloss.
