Default Blind spot monitoring question

Driving our F-type in the evening, for the first time I noticed small indicator dots in the side mirrors that come on at rest, and turn off once moving. Checking the manual (pg 56), it says, "the indicator dot remains illuminated until forward vehicle speed exceeds 6mph." Okay... but that doesn't explain their function, why they're there. Anyone know?

If the system fails, those little lights stay on. Maybe they are on at low speed so you know they still work?

That would make sense (kind of like the Alternator light on the dash), but it's funny that they didn't bother to explain.

The idea is to let you know that BSM is a feature but it is currently disabled. That's either because you are standing still or the system detects a fault. That way you don't try to rely on it if it is not working. I'd rather see a dash light for a failure, but I guess this is better than no indication.

If you have an actual fault, I believe you will get an error message on the dash. The light illuminated when you start out is mainly telling you that it's not giving you the all-clear. Often that's because you're in the garage, or parked next to someone, but there would also be brief a natural delay as the system is activated. It's just being safe (for you and their attorneys, not necessarily in that order).
