Default Bluetooth Sound and 3rd Party Apps

Anyone able to get 3rd party apps like Waze to work over bluetooth? My phone connects and I can make calls and play music, but I can't get directions or warnings from apps like Waze or Google Maps to play through the speakers. Any suggestions? I have an android phone if that makes a difference.

I haven't had any issues with Waze giving me prompts via bluetooth. I have an iPhone though. It maybe a setting though as on my options it'll route sound through the phone or bluetooth on my Waze.

Ok, so I can get prompts as long as the input on my stereo is set to my music. If I have it on satellite or FM radio, nothing comes through from my phone.

It's a limitation of the system. If you are playing FM or some other source, then the BT source will not be enabled so you get no sound from it.

A phone call can interrupt other sources though. Any way to get the system or my phone to treat apps like phone calls?

Not that I am aware of. If you go into your BT settings you can actually see that there's two different profiles for the Jag BT connection, one for phone and one for audio/media. So you can actually connect to stream music w/o connecting to enable phone calling, and vice versa. I think the system is aware to interrupt phone calls, but treats the audio/media as separate.

After reading some of the waze / android forums, it appears you are correct. There may be an app that will let you change this, but doesn't sound like it is something you can fix on the car side.

I'm waiting for some manufacturer to get smart enough to offer the Waze app for their nav option. They could probably save a lot of money on outmoded GPS systems, which do a lousy job of routing around traffic jams.

It would be perfect if JLR would add partner with Waze to enable their app to be used with the InControl App function. It should be straightforward since Waze is obviously optimized already for in-car use. I assume that JLR needs to work with Waze Mobile to get them to work with the Bosch mySpin / InControl system--probably a partnership and licensing fee involved.

In a couple of years I think that Android car and Apple car systems will be standard on most cars...
