Question Broken hose of some sort in engine bay...

Hey guys - did my first DIY oil change today using mityvac. when in the engine bay i noticed a loose connection, assuming this isn't by design! coulpe of pics attached, can anyone confirm how this should be connected? not sure if it has snapped or some kind of fastener is missing!!

close in and further out pic with the connection circled. it's right next to the oil cap

The part in question is broken off from the air intake tube and is allowing unfiltered and unmetered air to enter the engine.

The part is VIN-specific depending on the engine fitted to the vehicle.

Do you have the AJ133 or AJ126?

Is the MIL on? You may end up with pending DTCs of P0171 and or P0174.

I think it is the full load breather hose connection to the intake duct. Looks like the weld to the pipe broke. Looks like you need a new left side intake duct. It is supposed to look like this:

Judging by the first/top pic and going by the size of the SC coolant jackets it's the V8 (AJ133).

RWD JLR part number is T2P1052

AWD JLR part number is T2R7729

Agreed. A little Bondo, a little paint.. good as new!

That said.. all this plastic on intake and cooling is pretty annoying. Every piece of plastic I've ever met gets brittle and cracks with age.

Thanks guys - it's the V8. Appreciate the feedback. It's due back in to the dealer to replace some engine mount bolts so will mention this, but maybe super glue in the interim!

If the superglue doesn't work maybe some RTV silicone sealant?
Has worked for me on all sorts of things, just make sure you don't get any on the inside of the tube!

... and be sure to let the RTV silicon cure before starting the engine!

IMHO, something had been shaking the part enough to cause it to break off. I suspect that since the dealer is replacing the engine mounting bolts, that would indicate a possible cause/effect for the shaking, and the broken part. If so, any temporary fix here will probably be fairly useless until the engine mounting issue is resolved.

RTV won't hold. However, There are things you can do. JB Weld makes a plasticweld epoxy that is pretty good for gluing plastics. It is available in putty or syringe form. It is good enough to stick vinyl together, so that's saying something. Anyway, often times gluing plastic is difficult and requires some thought. The duct is probably a form of nylon.

If you choose to use JB plastic weld, try to have a fillet around the outside to help secure the fitting.

Also, it's OK to drill some tiny holes and use thin wire, such as 0.020 inch aircraft safety wire, to secure the part in addition to gluing. Just make sure to seal the holes when finished.
