Buying my first F-Type

That explains a lot, thanks
Yeah, the MY16 have the middle photo look. So it's basically just lipstick on a pig
Is the MY17 system a big improvement? I was planning to go have a look at a 2017 AWD R Coupé, but it was sold just a few days ago.
Which system would be best for adding a aftermarket module (like UAD) for wireless AA/ACP? Or maybe it doesn't matter?

I have the MY17 system with the meridian branded speakers which I think means it is 380w. The Nav isnt any good here in Australia but whenever I say that there are 5 posts from other places in the world where people protest that it is fantastic and gets them where they have gone ten minutes before they left, so I suppose it is a country thing. The sound from the unit (I use it for spotify almost exclusively) is average to poor at low volume, but actually pretty good cranked up, at least listening to the kind of music that I like which thumps a bit. Which I mention because I have found that some jags are great for acoustic music but muddy for rock/techno (my XKR was, apparently jazz was great on it but I dont listen to jazz), and some for the more rock/bigbeat stuff (which I have found with the incontrol unit like the MY17) and some, like my second XF didnt really have a great sound for anything I listened to.

When the update came out it was offered free to all MY18 vehicles. Then they discovered that the 8" screen systems didn't work so there was a second update that removed it from the affected cars (I haven't had the second one). As to whether it will be done free now will depend on the dealer, I guess - the update has been out for several years and mine was under warranty at the time. You should be able to see if you have the update as ACP and AA appear as options under the Connectivity menu.

As SCM writes, that is the 10" ICTP and it supports ACP/AA provided that its software is up to date. Normally a MY18 car with ICTP should have SOTA (software over the air) updates enabled so the latest infotainment system version including the ACP/AA support should come automatically if it isn't already installed.
Btw if you find a MY18 with the 8" system the screen can be replaced with the 10" one to get the native ACP/AA support but it involves some programming and so far I've only seen a company in the UK that provides that service.
