Hello everyone I’m currently new in market looking for an F type and I was checking online what’s the common issues and I landed on this thread from YT video so I wanted some help I’m looking at this f type for sale and I want to know if this is a good buy and also what maintenance am I excepting next and also the guy fixed couple of things in car and wanted to know is that normal or was he abusing the car
Plastic coolant pipes developing leaks is a common issue and doesn't indicate that the car was abused, but check the receipts to double check what exactly was replaced. For $7000, I sure hope it was everything!
Some other potential issues with a '14 V8 S that you should be aware of before purchasing the vehicle:
Worn out supercharger coupler. Listen for a rattling noise when the engine is running. If this gets bad enough, the shaft also has to be replaced. Dealerships will probably want to replace the entire supercharger, which isn't cheap, but it's possible to replace just the broken parts, although it's a bit of a pain and probably quite expensive if you're not doing the work yourself.
Fuel filler issues. There's a Jaguar TSB for this, which involved replacing the fuel fuller neck and the gas cap. Before the fix fuel pumps would keep constantly cutting off when refueling the car.
Noisy exhaust vacuum pump. Another TSB item to check. The fix was to route vacuum tubes from the engine all the way to the exhaust and to completely remove the vacuum pump from the rear wheel well.
Squeaky exhaust valves. Typically not covered by warranties and requires replacing the entire muffler as the valves are not replaceable. Drive the car without the loud button enabled and listen for unpleasant sounds, mostly when the top is down.
Sticky interior buttons and surfaces. Early F-Types have soft touch coating on nearly all interior plastics, which will turn into a sticky mess over time. Replacing the parts or getting them resurfaced is a lot of work and not cheap. Trying to rub off the coating with IPA might work, but it's extremely tedious and I've found it's also very easy to accidentally remove paint from the parts. I've opted to just replace the sticky parts with new OEM parts.
Shifter park button delamination. Not soft touch material, but the early shifter buttons were not very durable for some reason. The dealership replaced the entire shifter for me under factory warranty as Jaguar doesn't sell the button separately, but this is probably not covered by aftermarket warranties. Luckily the exact same button is available as a Land Rover part and is very easy to replace.
Can't think of anything else right now, but I'm sure some other folks have more to add. I would recommend getting a PPI by a Jaguar specialist or a dealership. The asking price sounds a bit high to me given the miles, so depending on other issues, definitely worth negotiating.
Make sure the center vent opens and closes with no grinding.
Was the battery recently replaced?
Examine the "chassis" from underneath to check for rusted structural components.
my 2017s 770 Meridian doesn't have the same quality as the Bose on my 2013 Golf
Do all the seat controls work as they should?
Are you getting 2 fobs?
Condition of rear diff fluid?

I appreciate everything and time to include everything. From what I was told he change whole coolant system. Im guessing he either was abusing the car or he wasn’t flushing it which caused him to replace whole thing. But I’m not sure I’m definitely going to take in for PPI. I will sure be in look out for everything u mentioned.

Thank you for putting the time and effort to let me know everything. I’m def going to take in for inspection at dealership but I wanted to get second opinions and also if someone knows what really the reason behind replace coolant system. He had to change all of it, it could be that he never flushed the coolant but I’m going to get that checked for sure. Also I dropped price to 34 but I might be able to talk him down to 32.
