California Emission

California Emission
Hey,
New here and in the market for a V8S. Just doing all the homework I can. I think I'm set on an F-Type but I'm over talking to dealers about them.
Anywho, last dealer I talked to had a 1 owner for sale, but it was registered in California. I'm not the most verse of 'car guy', but I know that California loves to put higher restrictions on it's cars. Often emission controls, and some other things.
Can anyone confirm if the F-Type is modified specifically for the state, or is it "50 State Compliant"? I'm in Pennsylvania and don't want to have to rip out extra cats.
Dealer was telling me how much better it is from California, because the frame and panels won't have rust...
Thanks for your help, and no, I did not do a thread search for this answer. Thought this was worthy of a first post.

I think for that reason they're trying to make one configuration that satisfies all 50 states plus EU.

This is good to know. That would certainly seem to lead to that they only do produce an all around compliant model.

50 state setup is normal so you should have no worries there. As for rust, two things to consider: 1. Jags are aluminium therefor no real chance for rust. 2. Dealers will use that notion to boost price because they don’t know about the car or they are just used to the older steel cars for which a California car does have a desirable climate for reducing rust.
but I suspect you knew that already

Unless something has recently changed, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania all have similar emissions standards as California. Vehicle certification for 'California Emissions' takes place at the factory as certain vehicles are tested during the assembly process to see if they comply with CARB standards.
Contrary to popular belief, aluminium body panels can and do corrode. Electrolysis can happen where aluminium and steel come in contact with each other, such as frame mounts and some steel drivetrain parts. Best to avoid purchasing vehicles from areas with brine or salt used to melt ice and snow without a full inspection.

Thank you all so much for the input.
I was sarcastic about the corrosion! I’ve never met a dealer that really knew much about a car I was buying. Last guy pooped himself when he told me to give my Focus ST a little gas. Not realizing it has the turbo.
Though yes if there is some steel underneath it would be good to stay in the cleaner states. If/when I pick mine up, it’ll be a garage queen. (I truly appreciate my company vehicle taking all the salt)

car will sound the same from cali, but keep in mind later cars, 18+ and especially 20's are quieter due to tuning, some early cars as well due to the dreaded software updates which eliminates overrun but many early cars had the patch, since you are looking at a v8s, its a 14 so you should be fine, car will be in its loudest state. (the best state) Compared a dealers 2020 R to a buddies 15R and the car sounded noticeably different, heard a 2021 yesterday and the fireworks and loud bark are basically gone.
