Default Caliper Painting

Just took delivery of F type S coupe silver with red leather and 20" black tornado wheels. Calipers are black but think red would look great. Live in Connecticut. Anyone know if there is special paint to withstand heat and if so, who might do it??
Not a deal breaker but on the " nice to do " list.
Thank you.

Here in Oz there are heaps of makers of caliper paint in a rattle can, so there are bound to be even more in the US. And if you can't find what you want in caliper paint then high-temp engine enamel will do just as well.
I also have an S coupe in a "sort of" silver (Lunar Grey) with Red Zone interior and black(ish) wheels (Blade), welcome to the club!
And yes, my calipers are red (factory option) and they look really good against the silver/grey of the body paint and the wheels, although IMO black would be the next best colour.

Edit - I had a quick look on eBay Motors and couldn't find red caliper paint in a rattle can, but I did find this Dupli-Color brush on kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Red-Caliper-...355953&vxp=mtr.
I have used Dupli-Color in the past and it is quality gear, so this kit might be just what you are after.

I used the dupli-color on my xkr and it came out better than expected. I cleaned the calipers really good and sanded them down the best I could. Prep is key to that job. I also purchased new drilled and slotted rotors from Brake Performance and changed them also. I hated those big clunky looking rotors. Ill do the F type over the winter.

A very long time ago, I used the Duplicolor kit to do my X100 calipers and purchased some Jaguar lettering to complete the look. Over the years (and about 100,000 miles) I should do it again as the cast metal that makes up the X100 calipers is bumpy and traps a lot of dirt that you just can't remove during normal washing. But it's certainly worth the effort.

Thanks. Where did you get the lettering?

Amazon carries the spray version

https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-B...=caliper+paint

I've used the brush on version for a previous car and the results were just ok. From a distance they looked fine but close up, you could see the brush marks. I never could get it completely smooth.

Thank you. Did you remove the calipers or tape the rotors?

Yep, I would go with the spray can over using a brush, that is the exact same one I have used, for example see here:

Don't mind the bit of brake dust on the caliper, this pic was taken a couple of weeks after I painted the calipers (on the XFR).

As for decals, I got some from here a couple of weeks ago: 6x JAGUAR BRAKE CALIPER DECALS STICKERS *10 YEAR HIGH TEMP VINYL* | eBay
and stuck one of the larger ones on each of the front calipers of the F-Type.
Looks good and so far no hint of damage, peeling or fading.
I tried to stick a smaller one on a rear caliper but it just would not "take", I'm sure that is down to the rough surface of the paint, but once repainted and reasonably smooth they should stick.

There can be issues painting over powdercoated brakes. If they were bare metal, the duplicolour is fine (used it on an XF with great results). On the powdercoated calipers I used G2 paint to go from grey to red on my XKR, also with good results, though it is brush on and you'd be better off it you can spray it. But if you can stand the hassle, I think it is best to have them powdercoated.

Neil,
Go to ebay and type "Jaguar Caliper Decals" and you'll find dozens of vendors with different lettering decals.

Also, remember after you're done painting the calipers, letting them dry, and then applying the lettering, you need to shoot the finished calipers with a high temperature resistent clear coat if you want any chance of the finish lasting as well as the lettering.

I wonder, does anyone know if the factory "painted" calipers are painted or powder coated?
My XFR came with the factory red calipers but the "paint" had faded quite a lot and the factory R decal/badge had faded almost completely away.
I repainted the calipers with the Dupli-Color red spray can paint, two coats, after simply cleaning them with turps and meths, with no problems at all.
Also, powder coating is relatively expensive compared to DIY painting, and as you say there is the hassle of completely removing the calipers and the carriers and taking them to the powder coaters, then the car is out of action for a while, no good for someone like me who only has the one car.

Had professionally done on our Ghibli, $850 factory, $500 after market. Printed new decal and used factory color. No problem after 2.5 years.
