Exotic means it needs to be somehow exotic. Different cars do that in different ways.

My little carbon fibre chassied Alfa 4C was an actual exotic and it was cheap. It was unlike most cars on the road, tiny, cramped, no storage, plastic body, manual steering etc etc etc). I would say my Lotus 211 would have qualified as “exotic”, even though it had a 4 banger in it.

Lambo’s, McLarens etc all do it by having the engine in the middle, odd doors, visible motors, carbon ceramic brakes, big wings etc.

I had a V12 Vantage, and I think that car would likely have been considered “exotic” to some because it had a V12 and a 6 speed, tons of carbon fibre when other cars didn’t, doors that swung up and out and carbon ceramic brakes. But it was likely more of a near exotic.

The FType has a supercharged V8, so while powerful, its not really “exotic” in North America, as you can buy a Camaro or Mustang with one. A decade or so ago, it likely would have felt that way.

The aluminum chassis could be considered “exotic”, but its no where near light enough, as it weighs more than a steel bodied Mustang.

They aren’t very common, so they could be seen as “exotic” to some people, as they aren’t really like a car that most people can afford or fit into their lifestyle.

I don’t worry about the label and frankly, I like that its not an exotic, for me its a fantastically brutish GT car that I can use often without worry.

Interesting how a Hurrican is considered exotic, but an Audi R8V10, isn’t (same basic bits, but much different expression). I’ve owned an Audi R8V10 and it was cool, but not exotic feeling. In fact it was a little docile and uneventful if you weren’t on it.

Character also plays a big part.

Then it’s a relative term. If you’re living on social security, fixing a Ford Fiesta is painful.
