I agree with ALPHAKINASE ; its in the eye of the beholder... Like the other day I was driving on the highway near Utrecht and a guy in a Volvo C30 was circling us while filming the F-Type...
.. while driving himself.. .. its a 60mph stretch spangled with speed camera's.. ..so he could catch up with me. Wonder if he got a ticket as to overtake he needed to do 65mph at least..
.. so they might see him holding his phone as well..
It made me feel like I was driving something really exotic..
But compared the likes of Bugatti and Lambo's it doesn't stand out. Thing is : these never leave their garages here ! Their owners take a BMW or Volvo to go to work... ..and they are all shades fo grey & black..
So yes : an ultra bleu F-Type surely stands out as an exotic then, even if its only 300hp..

Exotic means it needs to be somehow exotic. Different cars do that in different ways.
My little carbon fibre chassied Alfa 4C was an actual exotic and it was cheap. It was unlike most cars on the road, tiny, cramped, no storage, plastic body, manual steering etc etc etc). I would say my Lotus 211 would have qualified as “exotic”, even though it had a 4 banger in it.
Lambo’s, McLarens etc all do it by having the engine in the middle, odd doors, visible motors, carbon ceramic brakes, big wings etc.
I had a V12 Vantage, and I think that car would likely have been considered “exotic” to some because it had a V12 and a 6 speed, tons of carbon fibre when other cars didn’t, doors that swung up and out and carbon ceramic brakes. But it was likely more of a near exotic.
The FType has a supercharged V8, so while powerful, its not really “exotic” in North America, as you can buy a Camaro or Mustang with one. A decade or so ago, it likely would have felt that way.
The aluminum chassis could be considered “exotic”, but its no where near light enough, as it weighs more than a steel bodied Mustang.
They aren’t very common, so they could be seen as “exotic” to some people, as they aren’t really like a car that most people can afford or fit into their lifestyle.
I don’t worry about the label and frankly, I like that its not an exotic, for me its a fantastically brutish GT car that I can use often without worry.

Interesting how a Hurrican is considered exotic, but an Audi R8V10, isn’t (same basic bits, but much different expression). I’ve owned an Audi R8V10 and it was cool, but not exotic feeling. In fact it was a little docile and uneventful if you weren’t on it.
Character also plays a big part.

For a car to qualify as 'exotic' requires the following:
1. produced in very small numbers.
2. cost well beyond the reach of all but the extremely wealthy.
3. instantly recognised and coveted by the masses.
4. the subject of endless coverage in the international media.
5. have a lengthy waiting list with anxious would-be owners prepared to pay tens of thousands for a higher place.
6. lightly used examples should change hands with fierce competition for sums well beyond the original purchase price.
7. a few examples should be destroyed in well publicised and spectacular accidents to reduce availability even further.
8. sightings must be rare.
9. shipping it back to the factory for service and repair should be essential.
10. parts costs must be absolutely astronomical.
11. values must spiral upwards year on year.

And now for the 2-liter
Deriving from all arguments above, if you drive an F-Type , you're not wealthy as its not an exotic..
So you must have consideration for the fact that the 2-liter in the Netherlands and Portugal [ probably many other countries as well] , costs 60% of the price of a V6..
And that 60% is already way above the amount Americans and Canadians have to pay for a V6 !!!
Is it so strange then that we opt for the 2-liter with this sound... ... not staged, no studio equipment, no zilllion retakes...
And above all : below 80kmh, no more then 4500rpm and not even half throttle...
Recorded on a 2-bit dashcam with the windows closed in a coupe...
Enjoy.. roadmovie F-Type 2 liter
