Default Can't tell if it's blacked out

My new to me F-type has the propeller wheels, but I thin they might have been blacked out. Did they offer them completely black? The reason I suspect they used to be either brushed aluminum or similar is because some of the black has started flaking off. What do you think? My F-type is black on black on black, which is a little too black for me, so I'm hoping I can somehow blast the black off of the wheels if they are indeed some sort of coating or something. What do you think?

Those are called ‘Blade’ (20”), not Propeller (19”) - I have Propellers which were standard on the V6S. And the Blades are ‘technical gray with carbon fiber’, which is what your picture looks like.

You can peruse Jaguar brochures here, to see what wheels etc look like.

Yep, the pictured wheels are definitely Blades not Propellors, I have OEM Blades on my F-Type.
But my Blades and every pic I have ever seen of them have silver/aluminium outer rims (the flat bit next to the tyre) whereas the outer rims of the pictured Blades are the same black/dark grey as the barrels. This tells me that the wheels have been refurbed and the outer rims painted and that paint should be able to be removed without too much trouble, but who knows the condition of the underlying original surface it could well be a mess of gutter rash.

Here’s a picture from the first model year brochure, MY14 in 2013. The MY16 and MY18 brochures show the same, though the name changed to ‘Style 5042’.

Ah! Yes, the little flakes are coming from just the outer rim portion of the wheel. I'll bet someone ground down some curb rash and painted them. I think I'm going to strip them down and paint them gold or something. Something to contrast with the black. Thanks everyone!

By the way, all of my emblems are blacked out as well. Was this an option, or did someone paint those too? I think there was only 1 previous owner, so the original guy must have done it.

Noooo! Mine are dark grey, from the factory I assume since I got the car at a year old and with 1300 miles on the clock. Maybe it's an MY thing. A bit of diamond cutting round the edge, just to break up the dark.

Are they painted or plasti dipped sprayed? I ask because it peels off over time. If it is, you should be able to easily peel it off.

Very nice! One of the very few factory forged Jaguar rims too.

My Blades look exactly the same as those in this pic!
Maybe we have a Cool Hand Luke situation here?
I'm talking about what you have called the "diamond cutting round the edge".
