Hey everyone! I have owned my 2017 F-Type SVR for two months and have had no issues until recently. I always usually get a "low battery" warning but hasn't died until recently. I had it die on me overnight for some reason, and I jumped it with a portable charging/jumper box. A few weeks later (now), I came back from a business trip, and it died again. The car alarm goes off whenever I try charging/jumping the battery. The emergency key is in the door. I have tried locking and unlocking with the key fob, but nothing seems to have worked from what I see online. I believe the issue is that the previous owner drained the battery too many times as he only drove it 3500 miles over five years. I have a service appointment with JLR next month to get that fixed.

However, I still need my car before then. How do I get this car alarm to stop?

Start by getting a new battery.

 

Do I need to replace the battery under the hood and the one in the trunk?

 

You don't have one under the hood, so that makes it simpler. You can get an Interstate battery at Costco pretty reasonably, if you don't mind changing it yourself. But, you can also go to most car part stores and they'll do it for you. You'll have to reset the auto windows after the change. (See the "How To" sticky)

 

How can I access the trunk to change it myself? Since trying to charge under the hood lets off the alarm.

 

The battery is in the truck. Search and there a ton of threads on this, but you remove the flat floor cover in the back first, then lift out the large panel with the depression in it. The battery is under it, on the left, Disconnect the wires, then the clamp, and replace.

 

Seems odd that connecting up to the front posts sets off your alarm. That being said, put real charger on the engine bay posts, while it seems like your alarm will go off you'll be able to power the rear hatch and raise it. Then you can remove the jumpers off the engine bay posts.

My battery went flat some time ago and when the service guy connected to the underhood jump terminals the alarm went off. I suspect the logic is that the car thinks the battery was removed as part of theft activity and reapplying power triggers the alarm. The service guy knew it would happen and told me to stand by with a fob to turn it off.

 

I have had this happen with my Cadillacs, the key fob ends the drama.

 

Both of my key fobs aren't responding within <30 seconds of connecting power. I might have to run around to the driver's door and unlock the door or maybe open the trunk.

 

Well, I ran around to the driver's door. Hit the unlock and trunk button, and nothing happened. So I am a bit confused about what to do. Would removing the horn fuse keep the alarm sound off? I have a narrow garage, so it gets really ear piercing.

 

bet its the hood catch or door sensor jaguars are famous for this , could also be the battery , to get peace tonite means iter you disconect the battery or leave the car unlocked

 

PS in morning take a reading from the battery using a multi meter give us the reading

 

He whole current problem is that he cannot get to his battery.

 

Have you also tried putting new batteries in your key fob??

thats the only logical reason why you cant still get access and the alarm going off. If there is enough current to run the alarm there will be enough to pop the trunk latch so the car must not be able to read the presence of your key fob and will remain in locked mode. Also can you not open the door with your emergency key and then hold the fob next to the panel just below the steering wheel as another option

 

He could try measuring the voltage at the underhood terminals?

 

Don't be misled by both fobs not working - IME it's quite normal for both fob batteries to need replacing at the same time even if you only use one - an "idle" fob still drains its battery!
