Hi all,
I've decided to get my wheels refinished in gloss black, like in the attached photo.
The shop asked me if I wanted to have
(A) just the faces refinished, or
(B) the entire wheel (face + barrel)
Frankly I hadn't considered this.
They said I "wouldn't notice" if only the faces were painted, but I'm dubious.
The price difference isn't quite enough to put me off, especially if the face/barrel contrast turns out to be noticeable and ugly.
I welcome your thoughts 🙂
I find that it's hard to get/keep the barrels clean. When I had mine re-done, I included the barrels. Before mounting them, I then put two layers of ceramic coating on them. That makes it much easier to clean them. Considering the value of the car, the price difference to include the barrels is minimal.
So after carefully explaining to both the rep and the tech that I wanted the entire wheel painted in gloss black (and not just the faces as they'd originally suggested)....
Ugh!
I guess they're just used to doing things a certain way and the specifics of the order didn't make it into the actual shop.
They apologized for the mix-up and promised to deliver on the original order within a few days.
Good thing I visited the shop before getting them delivered back home, saved them a pointless trip at least.
Now at least you can all see how bad it looks with just the faces painted (exactly as bad as I'd imagined it).

Just wanted to say thanks for suggesting this.
I applied a DIY coating about a week before putting the wheels onto the car. Too early to tell exactly how effective it is, but it does seem to enhance the glossiness.
