This is an active topic on fpaceforum.com for over a year. They're obsessed with updates/fixes/enhancement of the control system, while the F-Type crowd focuses on performance & exhaust tones. We have both vehicle, so we're doubly afflicted.
FWIW, the topic covers both Carplay and Android Auto. It only applies to ICTP systems - not the ICT version that is in the base config, and in the older F-Types. You can see Carplay/Android on the build sheets (so far, marked as not installed), so the ordering system is set up to include the function. It is believed that the latest ICTP Phase 4 release enables the services. Waze just announced CarPlay support, so there's hope for that, as well.
As of the beginning of the week, no one has reported getting the update & enabling the function on their F-Pace. One person reported they were currently getting the corresponding update on their Velar. Others have reported that their dealer are not quite ready to apply the release. Most of the input people have gotten implies the capability WILL be backward compatible, although on poster reported that their dealer suggested there would be a 2-hour shop charge. Certainly dealers are frustrated (as their customers are) about the amount of time & resource that has been consumed by the numerous buggy ICTP releases.
So, we're still waiting on some answers & clarity, but there's definitely something going on. Things should clear up in the next week or so.

My phone as to be connected anyway, and having it on the dash, is no problem for me.
Not having to deal with updates at the dealership is another +
And yes, I will be a bit jealous when it comes out

Actually yes and no. It would be nice to have everything integrated, but the phone gives me advantages that even this update won't be able to match. Things like voice control over my searches, both for navigation and just general knowledge. Also liberates the center screen for other things.

You make a good and interesting point.
I’m guessing that the CarPlay interface works in a similar way to InControl. That is that you can’t have the Nav screen showing one thing and the phone another while using the system.
Presently I have my phone Scosche dash mounted and I display waze on that. I connect to the usb and then I use Siri to voice dial and play music from the phone. I find that connecting gives much better quality audio than does Bluetooth. The Nav screen is set to either music or the Jag map at a smaller scale....I usually only drive the Jag on longish journeys and the only useful InControl apps I’ve found are Sygic and Genius Maps.
It looks as if I can’t have CarPlay anyway but if I could I could use my iPad to display waze on the Nav screen and then my phone would be “free” to display other stuff. (I can do this right now with InControl of course, but no waze.) Only what would I wish to then display on the phone?
So I’m coming full circle and going to be happy with my present system.
However I’ve never used CarPlay and might change my new outlook upon having it demonstrated and then wish I could have it !

YES, but the added weight! Turning your F-Type into a luggable.
Meanwhile, I didn't mention it in my earlier post (since the topic was CarPlay), but the last of ICTP update enabled voice navigation - at least on the F-Pace (after you also update the maps).
