Default CEL at 3390 miles. Eh.

CEL turned on as I was heading into the office. No other noticeable symptoms/sounds/issues. Called my service manager and dropping it off in the morning. He said they had half a dozen in the last 2 days (not just F-Types), whatever that means.

I brought my '15 R in last Monday for yearly service (car has ~13K miles). Started it on Friday (hadn't driven it after bringing it home from dealer) and got a check engine light. Weird that the car behaved great driving it home. In the 3 years of ownership I have only had 1 other CEL and that was for faulty sealing gas cap. I have to bring it back to the dealer this Wednesday to get it diagnosed.

O2 sensors seems to be the primary cause of CELs. Don't know if they've improved anything with the O2 sensor recalibration update.

No use speculating until someone reads the code.(but that answer is indeed the most probable explanation).

I’m here now so hopefully they can tell me what’s up before I need to leave. So is there a software update for the calibration or what?

Welp check that. O2 sensor it is. Was jumping into loner and my SA ran out and said they’ll finish in 10 min. Not bad.

Very true about needing to read the code as so many issues will cause check engine or malfunction indicator light (CEL or MIL) on post 1996 OBD II , rather a shame that a code reader is needed when my last Jaguar ,(1993) OBD I would use the tiny trip computer display to show the error code.

had the same thing happen, it was an 02 sensor. took a day for them to fix it

In most cases, as long as the CEL isn’t flashing you’re ok to drive around until you can get the Car into the Dealer.

It’s becoming pretty predictable now, a CEL on later JLR Vehicles seems to almost always be caused by the 02 sensor/s or VAP system. My ‘16 Range Rover Sport has had 02 sensors replaced several times, and a couple of weeks ago another CEL diagnosis revealed a hose to the EVAP Canister failed.

It’s quite a big job on both the F-Type and RRS , parts have to be removed to gain access, on the RRS they have to remove the rear Wheel and Arch Liner, on the F-Type they need to remove the rear interior Panel etc, so beware of any squeaks or rattles when you get it back.
