I've had my 2018 F-TYPE 3.0L for 13 months now - it's been great with no issues. But...in the past month the center vent has started randomly going down in the middle of driving. Not a lot and not every day but it happens. A/C is not on auto - I had it set at 72 degrees and level 1 of fan speed. Yesterday....set at 74 degrees. To get it back up I just adjust the temp or fan speed 1 notch and it comes back and stays up usually the rest of my work commute. Has anybody else seen this before? Googling seems to say it can go down when blowing hot air but obviously it's not hot.
And unrelated but it has also felt like the temperature of the air out of the vents slightly changes randomly for a couple seconds as well with no adjustments. It was great all summer (Texas) so hard to tell if it happens with the cooler weather now but it has happened a few times.
This link to specific info for your 2018 may help. I have a 2017 with the full auto climate system, so I hesitate to advise you if you don't have that. The center vent in my MY2017 does go up and down depending on the cabin temperature. Important to remember that it is a "conditioning' system, not just cooling. I have noticed that it goes up and down a bit more now that it's fall in Wisconsin.
The center vent can be set to always activate as long as the aircon is on. When it's on auto, it raises and lowers depending on condition. A common condition for the center vent to lower on auto would be when it's blowing lukewarm air on cold days. I don't think it's malfunctioning so much as you just didn't have the right condition for that to occur. If it bothers you that much, just set it to always pop open.
I suspect it's just working as designed, especially since minor adjustments to the control have an effect. The vent can go up/down as you're driving if it senses a change in conditions. Less likely to happen in full summer/winter, but now's the time. Even a change in sunlight/shade can kick it off.
You need to go to the climate control settings menu. There is an option for the center vents to always open
If that's not set then it will operate exactly as you describe
Not sure how often you drove and/or what the weather was like for you last fall. This car's "climate" system is a lot like a house system.. it senses temperature differentials, and as in our Carrier house system, humidity levels. It will go on when the humidity is too high (summer), as well as too hot or too cold. If you've checked that link I sent above, or in your owner's manual, that should help explain things.
