Change battery in key fob

It's in the manual, though it took me quite a while to find it.
1. Slide the metal portion off the key fob (away from the key ring end), revealing the emergency key.
2. Slide out the emergency key, and put the end of it into the open slot. Unfold the handle for leverage.
3. Twist it to pop the clamshell open.
4. Battery is CR2032.

Apologies in advance for bumping a two year old thread...but...I suspect I need to replace my battery.
Symptoms went from a very rare occurrence of the fob not detected messaging (which I had attributed to being too close to the cell phone) to the car sometimes not wanting to lock with the fob when I got out at the office or other location. I wrote those off again to being too close to the phone since it would lock by pushing the handle in and the fact that it would always unlock properly when I pressed the handle button (I rarely use the fob to unlock). This morning, however, I went out and it would not recognize the smart key. Did not matter how I tried to position it...no joy!
I'm game for spending the few bucks on a replacement battery to give that a try before I make a call to have it flat-bedded across town. The question I have is whether I have to do any re-programming or whether the pairing remains intact given that the swap is literally just seconds in duration.
Thnx

Yes, the proximity function isn't dependent on the FOB battery IIRC.
It IS time to replace your batteries, though. My only advice is to be sure to remove any insulating cover on the new battery before you install it. (Don't ask me how I know that
)
And, change the fob batteries ONE at a TIME, verify operation before moving on to the second.

I responded to a thread about key fob batteries, pointing out that mine were about 54 months old, needless to say my comment prompted fate and they started to malfunction.
My fob never failed to be recognised when in the car, which makes me believe an earlier post that indicated the battery isn't required for key in car function.
I always unlock with the key fob, the failure mode was slightly odd, it would fail to unlock when the key fob was cold but later in the day when the fob had warmed slightly due to being in my pocket it would open the car without a problem.

Your 2016 is definitely of an age where new batteries are due. I've already done the 2017. The batteries are cheap and easy to replace, so not worth pushing your luck.
<$5 + <5 Min = 1 less thing to worry about.
You DO need the battery - even inside the car. (You can verify this when going through the replacement.) A marginal battery may get by inside because it doesn't have as much interference, and, a warm battery will work a bit better than a cold one. But, if you have intermittent issues, you're already due.

Thanks all for the comments.
I replaced the battery and all is well again. Process was relatively straight-forward once I got the silver Jaguar edge slider off. I was being far too careful with it, trying not to scratch it up. Then I had to ensure I didn't force anything to a breaking point when snapping the two halves back together. And yes, good reminder tip about the battery insulation...I almost had to learn that the same way *cough* that someone else had done LOL!
I was going to check the other fob, but I have moved since the original purchase and I need to find the box that had all of my 'second sets' for the various vehicles...yeah, I know...first-world problems.
