Mine only took a few hours of actual shop time, according to the invoice. This included looking at a few fiddly things that I had asked about.

Have just had the Charging System Fault message after 19k miles.
As suspected above, the dealer has found that there is an oil seal leak above the alternator.
Also a wire in the system needs replacing.
Car is under warranty.

I'd like to know if there's an effective permanent solution for this.

Just got the car back from the dealer.
It was the gasket on a timing chain cover.

I'm a little worried - I get "charging system fault" but only intermittent. I shut it off then start it again and its gone and the car runs fine. Not under warranty so wondering the cost of the alternator repair.....anyone know? (2014 f type S, amethyst black)

If it's intermittent, I'd check the electrical connections in case it's a simple fix.

Wouldn’t hurt to fully charge the battery or put in on a tender. Could ward off other issues if it’s a real fault. Might even fix it.

I’m assuming you’re not still using the original battery? If you are, it’s due.

I’m now having the same issue myself. However, while I’m driving the A/C and radio will randomly shut off and then come back on and then off again for 10 minutes. I’ve swapped out the rear battery for a lithium and still can’t figure it out. I get the charging system fault code every third or fourth time I start the car.
