chrome tips to BLACK ? 2017 F Type S
Can someone give me some pointers
2017 F Type S British edi
i just did a chrome delete all around the car and want my exhuast tips to match
so maybe paint the tips? or I could just replace it with new tips?
Does anyone know the size of the tip
what's the best way to go about this. I just want the tips black.
repainting with, does that require the tips be cut out and welded again?
it would be awesome if someone knows the size and can send some links to aftermarket black/powder coated tips
Thanks

The easiest way is to use high temp paint:
https://www.rustoleum.com/en/project...r-exhaust-pipe
If you want to have them coated, typically they need to be cut off, coated, and then re-welded. FWIW, I could have sworn I saw a shop offering a CF sleeve for the V6S exhaust tips, but I cannot find it.

Yes...Remove and/or tape off your trim and surrounding panels. Scuff them up with some 400 then 600 grit sandpaper, and you can spray them with Hight Temp / Ceramic paint. These tips actually do not get that hot...I have checked mine many times and a couple hundred degrees Fahrenheit is hottest I have seen....So even Caliper, or engine paint would likely hold up. I think they look better black...That is what I did to mine.
Good luck!

I remember looking into this a couple of years ago and I *think* I found CF sleeves of the correct internal diameter, but the problem was the external diameter was too big such that they wouldn't fit side by side in the small gap between the two OEM tips.
Edit - after a little searching I found some which might just work, see here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/11323270017...Cclp%3A2334524
I measure the external diameter of my exhaust tips as 112 mm and the linked ones are 114 mm internal diameter so they should fit with a little room to spare, and they shouldn't jam up against each other.
But given the price I doubt they are real carbon fibre, who knows how heat resistant they would be, and how do you fit/mount them solidly?

I contacted them and ordered them the way I wanted them - the "R" model needs to different lengths to mirror the factory spacing etc. and they were really good about making them in the diameter and lengths I needed. I also removed them and the rear bumper so I could mask off areas and paint the pipes that are visible through the rear valence and the muffler belly which I think made a cleaner all-black look. Yours would likely be the same size and you could probably mask off the bumper and paint the back of the muffler and exhaust that can be seen and then re install the tips.

Hi...
No primer. Just scuff/sand...Clean with Alcohol (or Prepsall)…And spray. Start with the back first, so you do not get too much buildup on the front edges. It has held up very well. Most paints these days have the adhering agents/primer built in.

@Therock88 is this matt or gloss finish? Have you had any issues since painting?
Actually neither. I do not care for the Flat/Matte Black look on the tips personally, and thought Gloss would be too much shine...and hard to find in High Temp. So mine are Semi-gloss/Satin Black.
No issues since painting, other than the one that is always open due to Dynamic mode, gets more soot (no different than stock)…So I am careful not to scrub too hard or use abrasives...But hey, if it does start to fade or distort....I will just spray them again!

Okay, so I decided to go DIY.
bought some "flat black" VHT flame proof spray and primer.
I sanded the tips with 600 - 400 sand paper then sprayed on the VHT primer ( I realized after I didn't need to do the primer, oh well. )
after primer then the Flat Black VHT flameproof ( up to 2000* resistant ) , i did 3-4 coats of paint. Let it dry for 4-5 hours then curing process - I let the engine run for 10 mins , off for 10mins, then run again for 10mins. off 10 , then run for 20mins .
The next morning I saw the finish wasn't that smooth , pretty rough ( i never spray painted anything in my life before, so I was not surprised ) so i went and bought 1800-2000 sand paper to sand the tips again. This made it look so much better and smooth. Im happy !
It's been 4 days now since I sprayed them and they are holding up great. I drove around quite a bit since on dynamic mode and very spirited runs. it seems to be holding up great !
all under $40-50
the tips are now matching all my blacked out trims
after sanding w/ 400-600 sandpaper
first coat of flat black
primer on
3 days after
happy
