Time for an analysis on the barkeeper's friend product. What's in that stuff?

Per their ingredients list: "water, mineral abrasive, citric acid, oxalic acid, surfactants, citrus fragrance."

Can't remember the last time a $2.50 purchase brought me this much satisfaction. Proof that the key to happiness is just to set all expectations very low.

Yep, I use Barkeeper's Friend all the time around the house, and 'twas Unhinged wot put me on to it.
I believe the key ingredient is the oxalic acid.

They cleaned up nice, but a track day got them looking better than ever. I absolutely love the way they look, and these pics were taken after only two sessions. The firescale now is a deeper purple which extends through most of the polished bit.

Has anyone successfully been able to remove the tips without damaging them? They seem welded on, but I haven't spent much time trying to confirm in that regard. If they can come off without much effort, I'd like to swap the inside/outside ones before another track day to even them out.
