Default Climate control part numbers

Morning, wonder if anyone can help me please. my climate control knob on the drivers side is stuck at 16C (Europe) also the heated seat doesn’t work, so dial is broken. So when to look for a replacement. I remove the unit to check the part number, believe it is JLR 18904

There is a sticker EX5318C 858 GK

now the problem there are so many last 2 letter combinations I can’t believe it I have, loads on eBay

eX5318C 858 DK,BB,DK, ect does anyone know if there is a decode for the last 2 numbers please.

the first 3 switches on the left I would image are the same on all units so looked for units with only 2 switches on the right, for me, they are max front screen and rear window heat. I assume heated seats may be another combination of letters

any ideas?

YIKES! What happened there? I have no suggestion for you but I find the damage shown to amazing. It looks as though this CC unit was baked in an oven?

Hi sov211 not to worry it is a trick of the light, was sunny when I took the picture, actually there is nothing visually wrong with the unit. Just the right hand side dial is officially stuffed, doesn’t work.

Glad to hear that, seriously. But it is a very odd failure...I can't recall any other complaint of this sort. I don't suppose that it could be one of the random low-battery issues?

EX53-18C858-GK (actually EX53-18C858-GK0-LMF) is part number T2R1909LMF.
The official supersessions are:

EX53-18C858-GK0-LMF / T2R1909LMF
-> EX53-18C858-EH8-LMF / T2R9962LMF
-> EX53-18C858-EJ8-LMF / T2R10784LMF

Those specs are 5.0l engine, heated windscreen and heated seats. (The suffix indicates the trim colour around the lower switches - LVM is graphite grey, NVM is the chrome variant.)

EX53-18C858-DK lacks the heated seat controls
EX53-18C858-BB I can't find in the EPC.

If you suspect a faulty rotary encoder I would first try disassembling the part to see if it is repairable. Encoders tend me be through hole components as they are placed under a fair amount of strain so it might be easy to replace and only cost a few dollars?

The two rotary dials you are asking about also control the heated seats, you press them in to then turn on the heat.
There are no separate buttons or switches for the heated seats.
My guess is it's not the dial(s) themselves that are dodgy/broken but some switch/relay/module/wiring/electrical problem.

Thank you for the replies all, xdave, Thank you for the detailed information there, do you know if there would be a difference between the v6 and v8 units? Wondering about interchanging them. I will remove it again and see what can be done don’t like the thought of paying £800+ / $1000+ for a heater controller

I don't know why, but the 3.0 and 5.0 variants are listed separately. It may be for trim/finish differences only. A quick look through the EPC suggests the graphite grey are all 5.0 and chrome are 3.0. I suspect the only technical requirement for a donor will be with heated seats and with heated front windscreen. You could always swap the trims over.

Are the left and right dials the same? If so I'd start by swapping them over and see if it's really the dial

That whole control panel is available as an assembly only. Individual bits not available, though you might be able to disassemble and swap the dials for testing purposes.

Looks like a whole panel change then unless I break into the unit and somehow fix it, the search continues.
