Clutch Satisfaction

Was flat-bedded in early this AM and I got the standard text the dealership sends out when a car is brought for service. Nothing since then, which suggests either a battle is brewing in the background or work is underway. Given how easy it is to confirm slippage, I have to believe I would have received notice of an estimate by now if they expect me to eat the bill...

I'd be interested to hear about (or see) the condition of the flywheel once they have everything out of the car.

I consider myself fortunate to have a service writer who is willing to listen AND fight where necessary...he knows there aren't many of the manuals out there and those that got them are likely people who know what is normal and what is abnormal. He was not happy with the situation last month when we were told by people who never even looked at the car that the vibration was 'normal.'

Just got it back a little bit ago...feels the best that I can recall even going back to the original test drive.
Clutch is T2R27466
Flywheel is T2R20968
They had to take the transmission out a second time when it wouldn't bleed properly and they found the plastic bleed screw to have been deformed. New clutch pipe #JDE27755 was installed and system bled.

And, if it doesn't, I can inquire when I am back in there...threw a check engine light on my way home but with no restricted performance indicators.

And, I have to say...this one feels the best of the three combinations I have had (Gen 1/Gen 1, Gen 1/Gen 4 and now Gen 2/Gen 4).
The one that got hit is doing ok...I'm still on the fence about filing a claim because I could envision them totaling the car and most of the rooftop dents are not really that deep. I know they are there, but I don't want to lose the car for the sake of a few thousand bucks. Manual X-Types are just too uncommon...

I don't really notice a difference on pedal engagement points, so I haven't had any embarrassing stall situations LOL !

I will second this option. About ten years ago I got caught in a freakish golf ball size hail storm where the sun was still partially out but a cloud burst occurred for about 30 seconds (seemed much longer) and there was just no where to go to get out of it so everyone driving just stopped and had to take the beating. My winter car at the time, Chevy Malibu was riddled with hail dents. I took it to one of these dent specialists in the suburbs of Chicago and he fixed it like new for $550. It was truly amazing.

I just this week bought a 2017 S m/t with only 3,200 miles on it, so it still has the original clutch and flywheel. I'm hoping someone can help me determine which gen those parts are.
MFG date sticker says 04/2016, and the VIN ends 38705. Car was originally sold in Canada if that makes any difference.
Based on that I read here it seems safe to assume it is NOT a gen 1 clutch and NOT a gen 4. It sounds like the gen 2 may be hard on the diff, so I'd like to know if I have one.
Also, I see little mention of a gen 3 clutch. Was there one? How well did it work?
I have not taken the car out for a hard drive yet, hoping to answer the clutch issue first before I push it hard. Driving style, I'm not going to flat shift it, I'll lift for a shift, save the abuse for my racing Miata. Pardon me if I've missed this answer already posted somewhere.

I have a close build date MY2017. Bought it fall, 2020 with 24k miles. Selling dealer was upfront about the clutch being replaced. I asked for and received repair order that gave part number. They put in a Gen 4, so safe to assume the one replaced was likely Gen. 3. However Jaguar may have put in whatever was in the parts bin that day, so it could be a gen.2. I've put on about 3500 miles on this Gen 4 clutch with no issues.....yet. I'm not so naive to think it will last a long time. I'm a life long M/T driver, but have a reserves for replacement fund for items like this.

Hey guys, just picked up a 33k mi 2016 F-Type S and I'm pretty certain it has the gen 1 clutch issue, its production number is #28062. It ***** fine almost all of the time other than when it's under acceleration past 5/6k rpm then it will slip pretty badly. However, If I just drop the clutch without applying throttle it will shift fine. It also seems to do it more with DSC on. With it on and trying to do a burnout by dumping the clutch it will slip but with it off it will grab easily and burn them off. Also wondering If anyone has done the clutch job themselves, I have a lift and experience just wondering if there are some hidden troubles with the job.

@Govinator
I have a 2017 manual with 24kmiles and the gen2/3 clutch does not like to be shifted under heavy torque, so I tend to take it easy on the RPM and throttle before engaging the clutch, which has been working fine so far.
Yes, having DSC on can trigger rear brake application during rear wheel spin, which can force the clutch to attempt to transmit more torque production.
If you feel it necessary to spin the rear tires, better do it under TracDCS or DCS off.
I hear that the clutch replacement job is fairly straight forward. Having a lift is bonus points.
(Otherwise you need to raise the car at least 24 inches off the ground to clear the transmission bell housing. )
I have spoken with @Unhingd about performance oriented clutch options for the F-type.. and it appears we only have OEM or SPEC parts at the moment.
We are looking for a lighter flywheel and a bit more torque holding capability, but still maintaining some level of torsional dampening and street ability.
I may purchase an OEM Dual Mass Flywheel and see if I can remove mass at the outer radius without sacrificing strength/safety.
I am sure we can find out what the OEM clutch disk and pressure plate bolt pattern / spline, and find some performance options for that.
(Volvo or Ford part number? Sachs, or LUK part number?)
