Default Considering an F-Type P300 Convertable

Hey all, new to this forum and also new to Jaguar. I am giving serious consideration to an 2021 F-Type P300 Convertible and have started researching the car. My questions for everyone are: Do you have an F-Type or experience with one and the elephant in the room when considering a Jag: How is the reliability?

I would appreciate any help, information or general comments regarding your thoughts on the vehicle and appreciate your time.

Much thanks,
SoFlaJag

Hi, I have had my F Type for nearly 5 years with virtually no issues in that time. Mine is a v6, but we also have an XE with the p300 engine. We have had that for nearly 2 years with zero issues.

The p300 is a beautiful engine, lively and very strong acceleration which doesnt die off at overtaking speeds, really well matched to the transmission. It behaves more like a small v8 than a turbo 4.

I think that Jag did have an issue with the p300 engine when it first came out back in the XE in about 2018, but I havent seen anything in recent times and - as I mentioned - ours has been flawless.

Rumours of Jaguar unreliability are greatly exaggerated and usually perpetuated by people with zero experience of the brand.

Default P300

We have an F with the P340 and an E Pace with the turbo 4 (p250) no issues with either. I personally would not want the 4 in the F Type. I’m comparing apples to oranges though. The E Pace goes very well with the 4. It’s effortless acceleration is surprising and very enjoyable. In the F it would go pretty well too. The v6 in the F is just so much better. Set you back in the seat acceleration with a glorious noise out the back is Orgasmic!

Yeah I dunno, I've been on a track with the F Type p300 (professional driver) and it was pretty impressive stuff though you are right about the sound. The 4 sounds very good for a 4 but the 6 is another level. From driving the XE in both 300 and 340 engines (the p250 is a nice engine but chalk and cheese against the p300 which has eliminated lag with a different turbo setup), personally I thought that the p300 was a better match to the transmission and much more linear. I would have thought the p300 was as quick to 100kph, and quicker after 100kph, but looking at resources it is marginally slower both under and over 100kph.

With P300 you are denying yourself on of the essential pleasures of this car - a supercharged engine. While there is nothing wrong with P300 turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, it is just not existing.

Thanks for the great feedback everybody. Normally I would agree with the points of view regarding 4 vs 6 and honestly never thought that I'd ever be interested in a 4 cylinder car but in this case it exactly suits what I want the car for. I'm looking for a touring spyder that I can cruise in. I don't want the added weight of an 8 or 6 sitting over the front wheels as the lighter front end will, IMHO, handle better. Also the Jag will be just one of the several other cars that I own and I have "fire breathing" monsters if I want the go fast with your hair on fire experience.

I agree that most negative comments are typically from people that have never owned a Jag before (me for example) but that's why I came to you all for opinions.

Looks like I'm adding a British thoroughbred to my stable! Thanks all!

Absolutely love my 300! Fun to drive very nimble and quick through corners (which is what i like) only thing i would like a little more sound, been looking at Ragazzon exhaust i want it to work with my active exhaust system.
