Default Convertible noise

Hi There...New to the forum. I apologize if this question has been asked already. I'm about to buy an F type S AWD convertible this afternoon. This will be my first convertible and year round car...I'm a bit concerned about the noise in the cabin.
So my question for the convertible owners.... Is there a ton of noise if you're driving with the top up on the highway? (excluding engine noise...I'm ok with that )

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Yes but that's why they have a 770 Watt stereo

I find the F type to be quiet for a 'vert.

+1. There is more noise than with a coupe obviously, but I have had and still own a couple of convertibles, and the F Type convertible is pretty quiet.

Although mine is a summer and fair weather only car, so the top is rarely up.

The F-T is remarkably quiet and warm for a rag top. In fact it is so quiet that with the windows up, the exhaust sounds remarkably sedate. The top is actually 3 layers, the inner and outer finish layers sandwich a layer of Thinsulate. The HVAC has no trouble keeping up in any weather.

The only thing that occasionally surprises me is the sound of vehicles coming through the right B pillar.

The only thing to worry about are the blind spots. They are YUUUUUUUGE. Make sure you get the Vision Pack.

I find it very quiet - for a convertible.

Have you had a convertible before?

I also have a Lexus SC430 hard top convertible (supposedly the standard for a quiet convertible) and my FT vert is surprisingly almost as quiet (with exhaust in quiet mode) with the top down at cruising speeds lower than about 75mph but it is MUCH less quiet at speeds over 75mph with way, way more turbulence at high speed. With top up and exhaust in quiet mode it is surprisingly quiet but not dead like the Lexus.

You can hear more wind noise than a coupe or a sedan, but it really is not bad at all. I can comfortably have a conversation in the car with my passenger at 80mph and on the phone at 90mph (in mexico of course).

Agree. I was surprised how unconvertible it feels and sounds with the top up - albeit my previous experience was a Miata, which is fairly noisy

I agree with all of the above that it's very quiet for a convertible with the top up. It's very drivable with the vision pack! The blind spot monitors are flawless. The only other vert that I have driven extensively is a Crossfire and by comparison the F-Type sounds like a coupe.

I have owned numerous convertibles over the years and find the F-Type to be remarkably quiet with the top up. Love the intoxicating sound of the engine, supercharger and exhaust with the top down. Feels like a completely different car with the top down, in a good way.

I agree there are many blind spots and the vision pack has saved me a few times. I am not sure I could live without it, others may differ.

If I had one complaint, I find that there is a little too much wind buffeting in the cabin with the top down, even with the windows up. But hey, it’s a convertible and that’s the price you pay for open air cruising.

I highly recommend the convertible.

Ours is our fifth convertible, and it is relatively quiet for an open car. But take one out and drive it. Get on the QEW and open it up. Frankly if you find the experience objectionable a Jaguar probably isn't right for you in the first place. The roar at starting on the other hand...

Having been a roadster driver my whole life I always give this advice: Don't buy a convertable unless you are going to put the roof down every chance you get.

Yes. Although, I do not put the top down in the morning on my way to the office as there is a TON of wind that enters this cabin and I would look like a wreck when I walk in. Top goes down on the way home and for the weekends though.

This is my third Jag convertible and they have all been very good on noise control.

Like-a-coupe quiet with top up. Can talk on phone at 70+mph with top down (windows up). I have the mesh wind deflector thing -- today I went to a glass shop to have a piece of tempered glass cut (I tried the plexiglass version from eBay and it is a bit flimsy/noisy)... without the deflector there is a LOT more wind and noise. Def need a deflector if you get convertible.

Can you advise us on the price you're quoted? And if the shop will make you more than one to sell us?

I'll post the quote once I get it, but it is just a mom/pop glass shop. I loaned them the plexiglass version to use as a template, but the mesh one could be traced just as easily. Seems like shipping might be more than just finding a local glass shop, but I'll ask.

Finally got my real tempered glass. Way better than plexiglass. No flex. I had the plexiglass from eBay and it was distracting. Took it to a glass shop and had them make same shape in tempered glass. $118.

It took them 3 weeks to get a quote (they don't do it in house). It was only $118. I think any local glass shop could trace the mesh or plexiglass one and cut real glass (tempered after cut).

It turned out great and so far I really like it.
