Default Coolant discoloration

Greetings all, I noticed that the coolant in my 2014 V6 seems a little dull/discolored instead of the bright orange of fresh coolant. Does this look bad enough that it needs to be flushed, or is this fairly normal?

It doesn't look shockingly bad, but I'd be inclined to go ahead and change it. Officially, the schedule says 10 years and you're close enough. Potential damage to the internal jackets is worth more than a simple fluid change. I haven't done my MY14 yet, but it's on my list to do in the Fall.

I had the coolant changed in Feb 2022 in my 2015 R with under 25K miles. Test strips showed the coolant was acidic which can deteriorate the plastic coolant pipes and rubber seals. The coolant didn't look as strange as yours. I would definitely plan on flushing the coolant if I were you.

I reckon it's an optical illusion.
My coolant has never been fully changed in eight years but it has twice lost around 2 litres then topped up again (coolant leak) so inspired by this thread I decided to check the colour/condition just now, by shining a torch/flashlight down the fill hole in the overflow tank just like the OP appears to have done.
Lo and behold, orange/brown looking coolant when I know the fresh/new coolant is bright pink!
So I grabbed my trusty turkey baster and extracted some into a clear container - nice and bright clear pink!
Looking in the side of the tank - pink. Looking down the hole in normal garage light without shining a flashlight down it - pink.
Shining a flashlight down the hole - orange.
So I reckon there is something about the overflow tank which causes the coolant to look orange only when shining a flashlight down the fill hole.

Pink or orange?
I just posted something in the XE forum - my 2.0l XE is slightly low on coolant, so I went to Autozone. They came up with a pink one, though it certainly looks like orange in the expansion tank. And I entered my car info on Peak’s website, and it came up with pink for European cars. Haven’t tried to determine yet if they mention Jag’s coolant spec.

The coolant cap appears to indicate orange, not blue.

There is a sticker on the overflow tank in my car that says coolant spec is WSS-M97B44-D Colored Orange.
I bought some coolant conforming to this spec and it was indeed orange.

I searched for JLR spec coolant as I needed to top-off my new 2021 F-Type.
It took 1/2 pint!!!
I used Pentosin Pentofrost SF which is definitely PINK.

Annoyingly, my wife's Audi A7 used a slightly different version of Pentofrost costing another $20/qt.

Are you sure that pink one meets the spec? I thought the Jag engines took the Dexcool spec which is an orange/red sort of color. It needs to meet the spec as indicated - not clear to me that the pink one shows that spec on the bottle
I know there is a newer pink coolant spec which may be backward compatible with older engines but not sure you want to mix the two?

My coolant was pink from day one (Sept 2016 with approx 27xxx km on the clock) and I have kept it topped up with pink coolant ever since, and not the slightest hint ever of a coolant problem.
From the research and reading I have done orang/red/pink coolant are all the same (or used to be!) and it's just the green (or yellow) coolant you have to watch out for which may be no good for our F-Types.
These days the colour means nothing but you still want OAT or HOAT not IAT for our F-Types, see here: https://www.holtsauto.com/prestone/n...erent-colours/

Maybe some dealers use the pink hybrid OAT rather than the dexcool OAT. Which would suggest both are suitable. Although not sure about mixing them
Mine has always had the dexcool orange one.

But you're also right that it's spec not color that matters!

When this topic came up again I wondered if I had actually screwed up (again!!).
It is so hard to find documentation on coolants meeting the actual JLR spec. 651.5003.
I was finally able to track down the document confirming Pentofrost SF meets that spec.

All my manual states is WSS M97B44 (Orange) - which is a fairly common Motorcraft fluid. That would seem likely, given the ties between Jaguar & Ford at the time these engines were created. The current version is cheaper and readily available. Am I missing something?

It seems JLR changed the spec for coolant for the 2017MY - also went from orange to pink.
Can't speak to the what or why!!
