Thanks Rock! great photos- I have seen the posts about accessing the tensioner from underneath (removing the trays etc). just want to confirm that no one has had success trying to access the tensioner from above?

my guy did it from the top, full supercharger removal like you saw without lifting the car

Not done it myself but I understand you can loosen the SC belt tensioner and remove the belt from the top fairly easily by doing two other things first:
1. Remove the hood/bonnet (which also makes it much easier to remove the SC itself).
2. Remove the upper air intake tubing (which has to come off anyway to remove the SC).

yea first thing we did was remove the upper intake tubing.
Wow! love all the responses- thanks guys.
good news: can confirm it can be done from above without removing hood (bonnet)
next part is gonna take a lot of wiggling and swearing, but if you wiggle the supercharger enough it will come out, it needs a lot of finessing and patience but once you lift up the unit just a bit you will get enough motion to wiggle it free-er and free-er.
plz makesure you torque all of the bolts down to spec once you go back, i think 20nm. but double check. all of the charger bolts are the same torque specs.
Thanks HOLY
currently not budging a millimeter! I have seen various interesting lever setups using timber etc but you reckon just some wiggling? (maybe some tapping with trusty rubber/plastic mallet?)
anyone else got any hints?
I vaguely remember reading somewhere on this forum that there are one or two spots where you can juuust wedge a crowbar between the SC and the block enough to lever the SC up a little and get things started.

You can access from above w a 3/8 in torque wrench or ratchet w a long handle. There is just enough room to fit the male end of the wrench in the square cutout. This makes it super easy to futz around with the belt and sc pulley while working standing up. And you don't need to remove 200 screws and 8 bolts from the tray.
Good luck
Edit: I'm sorry from your pictures, you obviously figured this out. Sorry for the spam
well thanks to your sage advice I have made some progress after work this evening. turns out some very gentle rocking with a rubber capped crowbar got it moving and it was actually very easy to lift out by myself. not heavy.
you can see the coolant sitting on the block- it's not immediately obvious that the y connector is cracked but i shall replace it and the pipe running under the SC from the throttle body. I"ll insepct the y connector more when i have it out.
so it turns out the Y connector was the culprit. the plastic had cracked around the bottom of the connector where the rubber o-ring is as the pipe goes into the block. new parts ordered and engine/engine bay detailing underway!
yea mine was the same exact tthing, i caught it cuz there was smoke coming in from the engine due to the coolant sitting ontop of the block. kinda lucky i think! rather that than having low coolant message.
Now would be an excellent time to change the oil in your super charger. Therock88 has a thread going on his SC oil change and it would be great to see if you get the full 5.1 oz of out, since you can physically tip and drain your SC.
MM
paul_59- no problem; I hope it can be of use to someone
madmax- yes- great idea. I will replace the oil and document it. what kind of oil does it take??
NEW QUESTION:
Does anyone know for sure if the faulty y connector pipe was replaced/redesigned/superseded? I have read some vague posts about a redesigned pipe.
the only part number i can find on britcar is AJ8 13865 which looks exactly like the old one and I don't want to just replace it if it's going to have the same fate in another 5 years.
Anyone have any wisdom on this?!
I replaced all the gaskets that i unnistalled too, which was more expensive than everything else. Gaskets and OEM Coolant is hella expensive.
I also ordered this: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/112433704125 , Was pretty easy to install. Just makesure you clean and replace the old gasket silicone when you put it back together.
Car is less noisy now and i don't have to worry about the spring one going bad.
HOLY old boy. I am so going to get suckered into pre-emptive SC work aren't i.....
couple of questions: when you say less noisy, what noise were you getting?
also, does anyone know anywhere I can get the eaton SC coupler locally in australia? (@OzXFR)??

adent,
There is a company in Oz which sells Eaton supercharger rebuild parts, a mob called Mace Engineering Group, see here: https://www.maceengineering.com.au/P...-Rebuild-Parts
However it looks like they cater for Holden/GM stuff only but you never know they might have the correct coupler for the AJ126, no harm in asking them.
