So I have been looking for an F-Type coupe standard with a manual transmission and trying to keep the cost basic. I finally negotiated 5,000 off on a list of $70095 for $65,000 but the car is in transport and will not be here until the end of February. I was thinking of buying the car out right but have looked at lease options as well which they quoted me based on January's residual and rates but said it may change in February.
Anyway I was driving by another dealer today, stopped in and told them what I was looking for which they did not have. The only manual he had was an S with a list price of $84,183. I said that was way off, and he tried to sell me a red non S which I did not want as I want Storm Grey. He kept pushing the 84k S and I told him I was getting the other one for 65K. Anyway after about an hour of back and forth they came back with the 84K car at 71k and a lease deal that was $15 less than the 65K car I had put a deposit on.
Short story long, I am picking the S up today at 7pm. Not bad for just stopping in by chance to the dealer.

WOOT! Not bad for just stopping in by chance and investing an hour. With the sales month just beginning, perhaps they added your deal to last month's sales. But hey, who cares, right?

Thanks for the congrats guys. The dealer actually was nice enough to pick up me and my son about a half hour away. Drove the car home and it was AWESOME even though it was completely dark and I was not used to the car.
I will post pics but of course today on in Norther NJ it is a horrible rain storm all day and as much as I want to, I think ill leave it in the garage for today.
One thing I noticed on the invoice is it looked like they had the car since September and maybe thats why they moved it with such as discount being that the 2017's are on the horizon. The car details are:
2016 F-TYPE S
Storm Grey
Cirrus interior (which looks really nice against the gray)

Nice car! It is a good deal, and 15% off MSRP is usually reserved for cars that have been sitting in inventory for a year or more.
I don't think there's that much profit margin in the car, but you may have just been in the right place at the right time. JLR pays dealer incentives, so maybe they just needed to move one or more units quickly by a certain deadline to pick up a tidy lump sum from JLR. In addition, tax write-offs often figure in to whether they will let a unit go at a deep discount.
It's also the case that there are larger percentage discounts to be had on S and R models. I don't recall seeing 15% off a non-optioned base car no matter how long it had been sitting around.

I agree, I like the contrast. Also I was always going with black seats, and when I found this one with the Cirrus interior I fell in love with it. Just hope I can keep it clean.
